    Hi Guys,
    A newbie here, so please forgive me if my questions are a little basic.

    What do i need to do to windows 8.1 before i upload windows 10, i don't want to take anything across that will cause problems. I will save any documents and files before i upload.

    When windows 10 is uploaded what will happen to my windows apps, non windows apps and extentions that are downloaded on my windows 8.1

    Pre Installation Help

    When I have installed 10 as an upgrade over 8.1, I have been given the option of keeping installed applications. I chose to keep them, and I believe that they all remained. The only thing that the upgrade got rid of were some drivers that weren't Win 10 compatible. One or two applications (StartIsBack was one) that were incompatible or useless in Win 10 were carried over, but not active.

    Backing up your data is a good idea. Imaging the boot drive is perhaps a better one. (I use Acronis True Image, but there are supposed to be good freeware versions around. Macrium, maybe.) Odds are, though, that you'd just get Win 10 without any trouble, other than having to find where Microsoft moved the various Windows settings locations.
