  1. Preferred Language options are not working

As the subject reads, something is wrong with my computers language startup options, I could not seem to find any posts on any forums encountering the exact same problem.

I want my preferred default language to be English (United Kingdom). If I look at my language options, it will tell me English is my default language, but every time I start up windows it picks something other than English.

It started a few months ago when a "crucial update" prompt wreaked chaos on my computer, took me months just to finally stop the "windows push notifications" Ram glut.

Before the update I had just English and Japanese on my computer (I had manually removed American as an option). After the 'crucial update' it added American back in and started windows using American when I started up windows, I set UK as default, removed American, it boots up with Japanese, I tried removing Japanese and its reverted back to American despite there being no option to swap to American in my preferred language options...

I'm pretty sure I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling English from my language options, that hasn't helped.

I know I can cycle through languages on my computer with Windows key + space key, I have visited the language settings using the language display on the start bar and tried tinkering with the settings many times in order to try and fix this issue on my own but I legit cannot seem to figure out why it will not boot up with English by default even though its telling me English IS my default.

Has anyone seen this problem before or possibly know of any hard solutions (do I need to do something as admin or to boot in safe mode?), it seems like I need something that can clean jump start the default language options for windows, cos something is certainly fragged, the problem is literally confined to just the UK language, if I set any other language as a preferred language it will use the other language upon startup no problems, but if I try to set English as default it wont work.

  2. languages preferred

    Hello,

Assuming you want to use English (United States) as your preferred language, try these steps

    1. Right click Start Button or press Windows + X keys and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).

    2. In the administrative Windows PowerShell window, type these commands one-by-one and press Enter key after each:

    Get-WinUserLanguageList

This will display list of installed languages on your machine. Note the LanguageTag for your preferred language.

    $1=New-WinUserLanguageList <LanguageTag>

Replace <LanguageTag> for your preferred language. For example, if your preferred language is English (United States), then you can use $1=New-WinUserLanguageList en-US.

    Set-WinUserLanguageList $1

After this, when opted, type Y to confirm setting preferred language. Close Windows PowerShell and you're done.

    Hope this helps!
