    Prevent Automatic Windows 10 Update/Reboot on unattended but running machine!


    I'm running Windows 10 Home.


    I often run long processing jobs, overnight. At all times of day. I don't always know how long they will take.


    Windows 10 pops up a message saying upgrade etc, but if you are not there, it insists on upgrading and restarting anyway, after a certain time period.


    This is very annoying!!! And causes me to lose work and time.


    I have read a whole lot of posts about ways to fix this, but they all seem a bit clunky to me and not even sure if they are correct.


    I'd like it if I could just be notified, perhaps every day, but I can click "Later", and until I click "OK do it" nothing should happen!!


    Is this possible?


    I tried the Microsoft help thing but it made me nervous when they said install this update and give us remote access etc. Which I didn't do.

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

    A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
