Windows 10: Prevent Explorer grouping folders and files separately

Hi,

There are lots of forum posts about people wanting to have folders always on top. I have the opposite problem: I DON'T want folders on top.
If I arrange a directory by Name, Date modified, Type, Size etc. then the folders are always kept together - I don't want this. If I arrange by Name then I want everything in alphabetical order, regardless of whether it's a folder or not.

I am not using the "Group by" function - I am simply in Details view.

Any ideas?

Windows 10 Explorer separates files/folders by date

I went to Group By, then MORE... Date was not checked off.

What was checked off was :

Name

#

Title

Contributing Artist

Album

Scrolling down the Group By> More to find date, DATE was not checked off. To determine whether DATE had an effect, I checked it off, applied changes and looked at Explorer directories. Files and folders within the periods of date separators were then sorted
using the date parameter, but DATE SEPARATORS were not affected. Went back and unchecked GROUP BY> MORE> DATE.

If you have any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

 

Windows 10 Quick Access - Folders grouped separately sometimes

In Windows 10, Quick Access is really great. I like the fluidity of it. Here's my question: sometimes (most of the time for me) folders are integrated into the list of recent files (20 recent files/folders), and sometimes folders are grouped separately (8
recent folders, then 20 recent files). I can actually click on several folders and convince W10 to do the separate grouping. I prefer the separate grouping, but when I am mainly working in files, they go away and show files and folders together. Is there a
way to default to show the folders grouped separately from the files. I'll try to post screen caps if that helps. Thanks!

Thank you, @KeithM-60601 for the simple fix.

I had the same problem with grouping of Quick access folders and files not working on one of four profiles after the Windows 10 Creative Fall Update (Version 1709). The regedit solution by @KeithM-60601 worked straightaway as promised. I also took the following
precautions before making the regedit changes.

• Created a restore point.
• Exported the registry branch to the desktop before making changes--just in case.
• Made png clips of the Quick access Explorer view for each profile so I could restore pinned folders and files for each user if necessary.
  

As it turns out, none of the three precautions were needed, as the regedit changes solved the problem on the single profile without losing pinned folders there or on any of the three other profiles on the PC.

One thing you will need to do after applying the regedit fix to the problem user profile: Right-click on the Quick access icon in Explorer and click Options. Then click Restore Defaults. This will ensure your Quick Access folder appears as intended, with
folders and files grouped separately. This step was not necessary on other profiles on this PC.

This is the solution you are looking for if you need to reset Quick access to view group folders and files.
