  1. Prevent Inertial Scroll from following my mouse cursor

Please note - this is NOT a question about turning off inertial scroll in non-focused windows.

I'm trying to figure out a very pesky issue I keep having with my mice. I've tried several mice, and at this point I'm fairly certain it is a problem with the Windows 10 GUI/widget set.

If I have two windows side-by-side, then initiate an inertial scroll in one window, then move my mouse cursor over to the other window, the first window will stop scrolling and the second window will start scrolling - as if I asked the second window to scroll. The entire concept of inertia is that it is imparted on the first window and you don't have to keep scrolling it, but if my cursor leaves the window it stops scrolling and then the "inertia" is moved to the second window.

    To reproduce:

    1. Place two scrollable windows side by side.
    2. In the first window, initiate an inertial scroll using an appropriate gesture on your mouse/trackpad.
    3. While it is still scrolling, move your cursor over the second window.
    4. If you're quick you can move it back and forth while scrolling and watch the "inertia" jump back and forth between them.

What happens: The second window will start scrolling and the first window will stop. As if the inertia is transferred.

What I expect would happen: The first window would keep scrolling, since it is the window where I imparted the inertia.

Why this is an issue: When I scroll to the top of my recent chats window in Teams I usually do it with a quick inertial scroll to jump up to the top. However if my mouse then slides to the right a little and goes over the actual chat/conversation area it will stop scrolling in the list of chats, and instead start scrolling up into the history of the chat where my mouse went.

This leads to situations where I have to perform another scroll to get back to the bottom of the actual chat, and hope it was the chat I wanted it usually isn't because I wasn't back to the top of the window yet.

This also causes issues if I'm trying to jump back to the top of something under my mouse and if my mouse moves over another window that one starts moving but the first didn't finish jumping back to the top.

Its a mad mess I tell you.

    :)

    Windows 10 Disable inertial scrolling

    Thankyou for the reply.

    This does not work.

I uninstalled the driver and restarted.

I don't know if that solved the issue of inertial scrolling though as it disable my ability to scroll with the touchpad. I don't have an external mouse to test with the mouse wheel.

Upon installing offical windows 10 touchpad drivers from the lenovo support site and restarting the system, the same issues occurs.

Again i searched mouse settings in system settings and clicking additional mouse options and advanced settings under the thinkpad tab, which i assume are driver specific options.

No option to disable the inertial scrolling just a setting to set the speed of inertial scrolling.

This setting doesn't seem to change the time spent inertial scrolling just the rate. I wish to set the time scrolling to 0 or simply disable it.

This is very frustrating to work with as i meantioned, pressing ctrl whilst inertial scrolling is active will cause the zoom shortcut to occur. I use ctrl combinations a LOT. This greatly reduces my productivity as i have to wait for the inertal scrolling
to stop or carefully stop my scrolling before using ctrl at all.

I have contacted lenovo support and left a message detailing the issue.

Please note this is a huge black mark for me against windows 10, which is actually the only issue i have had thus far, as the amount of time lost and frustration adds up.

If this issue is not resolved I WILL go back to windows 7, or switch to linux as I don't really have a use for windows currently, just a bit easier with compatibility for other people.

I have not upgraded my desktop for program compatibility issues, and was testing the OS on my laptop first.

    Windows 10 Disable inertial scrolling

I have scoured the settings for this, but cannot find a way to disable inertial scrolling.

It is a problem particularly due to ctrl + scrolling being the shortcut for zooming.

As it continues to scroll if i press ctrl during this inertial scrolling then the page zooms in or out.

This gets in the way when browsing the web and switching tabs with ctrl + tab, opening new tabs with ctrl+click, etc...

Please tell me if there is a method to disable inertial scrolling, if not, why not?

Prevent Inertial Scroll from following my mouse cursor

    scrolling bad

New event. When placing cursor over a list or row of columns, even the volume bar scrolling is automatic and proceeds to one end of the series and stops. The scrolling also stops when I move the cursor away from the list but am unable to select anything in the list. Not all the possible lists are effected. Other sites have recommended mouse/kb fixes. Have tried all those but the phenomena persists. Have not had any known updates recently and don't have a restore point to try. Any other suggestions? W10Pro 1903
