Windows 10: Prevent screen brightness from changing automatically based on content

Hello,


Both of my Win10 laptops have an issue where the screen's backlight changes automatically based on what is currently on the screen. I find thisextremely annoying because it often makes the content more difficult to see and I set my screen brightness based on what is comfortable for my eyes thus, I need it to stay at exactly what I've set it to. Is there a way to prevent this change from happening?


Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Some computers can let Windows automatically adjust screen brightness based on the current lighting conditions.

To manually adjust the screen brightness, we suggest following these troubleshooting steps:

• Click Start, then select Settings.
• Choose System, then select Display.
• Under Brightness and color, move the Change brightness slider to adjust the brightness.

Windows 10 laptop changes brightness depending on the screen contents

I have a Dell XPS 13 (9350) running Windows 10 and I can't seem to disable the automatic brightness changing depending on what's on the screen. If the screen is primarily light the brightness will go up, and when it's primarily dark it'll dim. I'm having the same issue as outlined in these posts:

but none of the solutions given worked for me. In my Intel HD Graphics control panel there is no "Display Power Saving Technology" option, nor are there "On Battery" or "Plugged In" tabs in the power section. This problem persists on both battery and AC.

I am willing to reinstall drivers but I am not willing to reinstall Windows. I am also familiar with the command prompt and registry editor.

Brightness changing problem

Hi,

Changing the screen brightness on your laptop can be adjusted by going to
System > Display where you can use the slider to adjust the brightness. If your PC supports, you may also let Windows to automatically adjust the screen brightness according to the current lighting condition by enabling
Change brightness automatically when lighting changes.

If you've already the tried the suggestions above but the screen brightness still doesn't change, then we suggest updating the display drivers. Please see

Update drivers in Windows 10 for the steps on how to update the drivers.
