  1. Prevent screen mirroring, bluetooth protection?

If you don't have 'allow bluetooth devices to find this PC' enabled in the Bluetooth Settings, can you still connect with the pc from any other device? Specifically a television with bluetooth / screen mirror capabilities?

I found unknown televisions connected to my laptop via bluetooth. I have since removed them. I did not manually connect those televisions to my laptop.

I have 'receive notification when new devices want to connect' enabled as well, but never received a notification of television bluetooth connections that I can recall. I also have a PIN number required enabled in the same bluetooth settings, but that does not seem to prevent televisions from connecting to my laptop. I don't want my neighbors to see when I input my passwords on the internet.

    My questions:

Is there a way to secure the bluetooth on my laptop?

How do I prevent screen mirroring with my laptop to other devices? The PIN number requirement appears to have failed me.

    Thanks,

    John Powell

  2. screen mirroring

    Hi Hatty,

There is a way for you to control the remote screen whenever you are trying to mirror it from one device to another. To provide you an appropriate solution, please provide us the following information:

    • Which device are you using to mirror on your laptop?
    • Are you using an app to mirror the device on your laptop?
    • Are you able to use your mouse and keyboard on your laptop even if you are not playing a game while mirroring it from a device?

If you haven't tried to use your mouse outside a game while projecting to the PC, you may follow the steps below to allow your mouse and keyboard to control the remote screen:

    • Open Action Center.
    • Click the Connect button.
    • Click the name of the device you're trying to project.
    • Check the Allow input from a keyboard or mouse connected to this display
      option as necessary.

Mirroring laptop screen to TV - works once only.

I found connecting to the TV hit and miss. I just did it and it took at least 6 tries. I found it sometimes makes a difference whether the laptop starts the connections first or the TV. All I can do is show how I do it and hope that helps.

BTW, my Samsung TV is ten years old and doesn't have Bluetooth. That is OK because I connect to my Samsung [BD]J6300 Blue-Ray player instead.

On the Blue-Ray player I open the Screen Mirroring app that comes with it.

On the laptop I open the notification area on the right side of the screen and...
    • Turn on Bluetooth if it is not on
    • Select Project
    • On the bottom select Connect to a wireless display
    • I then select [BD]J6300 from the list
    • Within 30 seconds it will connect and display
