Windows 10: Prevent Sleep Mode during day time

Hi there,

I would like to know if there is any option how to prevent sleep mode during day time, something like active hours for updates. For example I want my PC to go to sleep after 11PM if it is idle for specific time, but not after 8AM, not activate it until it is 11PM again.

I was thinking if something like that can be set up in Task Scheduler with sleep mode set to 0?

Hi disgruntledWC,

There could be other settings on your computer that triggers your computer to go on sleep even though the sleep settings is set to never. To ensure that the sleep and display settings are properly set, I suggest that you look into the Advanced Power Settings.
Follow these steps:

• Open Control Panel and click Power Options.
• On your preferred plan, click Change plan settings.
• Click advanced power settings.
• Expand Sleep option, and make sure to set the following:

Sleep after : Never

Hibernate after : Never

5. Click Apply, then OK.

Please check also the screen saver option.

• Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
• Click Screen saver settings.
• Set your Screen saver to None.
• Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, please observe if your computer still goes to sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity.

Win 10 Backups & Sleep Mode

Hi Ruth,

I should clarify the reason the backup was cancelled.

The actual message was... "Backup was cancelled by User", and I am quite sure that it was because the PC entered Sleep Mode.

The Win 10 backup is being stored on an external 2Tb USB drive.

So to put my questions again...

• If I schedule a weekly backup, and the PC is in Sleep mode at the appointed time, will the PC wake up to allow the backup to run?
• Can Sleep Mode be prevented whilst a Backup is running?
