Windows 10: Prevent users from changing View Ribbon Checkbox options

Is it possible to prevent users from changing View Ribbon Checkbox options?

I don't want them to uncheck File name extensions and check Hidden items.

I already enable Do not allow Folder Options to be opened from the Options button on the View tab of the ribbon on GPO but still can uncheck File name extensions and check Hidden items.

I understand the issue that you are facing.

1. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

Install any pending updates on the pc to check if that helps. Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or enhance your computing experience.

Step 1: I suggest you to refer the below steps to fix the issue.

1. Go to view in the file ribbon.

2. Select options

3.Then click on Change folder and search options.

4. Under folder view options, click on Apply to folder and yes.

If issue persist try step 2:

Step 2: Perform
System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.

Follow the steps:

SFC scan:

• Press Windows logo + X
• Select command prompt admin
• Type ‘sfc /scannow’ (without quotes) and press enter.
• Restart your computer.

Windows 10 File Explorer no longer shows Search ribbon during search

We understand the difficulties you are facing with the file explorer search ribbon. This is really unusual, as we have tried to reproduce the issue but was not able to get anything. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply
with the answers to the questions below.

• What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)
  
• Are you aware of any recent changes on the PC, prior to this issue?

However, we would suggest you to perform these methods and let us know the outcome.



Method 1: Reset file explorer to default.

1. Open file explore and select on View tab from the top ribbon.
   
2. Click on Option and select Change folder and search option.
   
3. In the new window select the view tab and click on Restore Default tab below
   
4. Click OK and re-launch file explorer.

Method 2: New user account

Check in new user account. Follow the steps from the article

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10 to create a new user account and check if you are facing the same issue with the file explorer.

How do i unhide a windows 10 hidden user account

Chris,

If all you did was hide a folder [in File explorer] then all you have to do is unhide that folder. Judging by your description, you have not changed your user account itself i.e. it is a folder that is hidden not the user account.

• Open File explorer,
• in the upper-right, click on the dropdown arrow if necessary so that the ribbon is visible,
• click on the View menu,
• set the checkbox for Hidden items,
• navigate to the folder concerned & clear its hidden property,
• [optionally] clear the checkbox for Hidden items.
