Prevent Windows 10 updates from touching any drive other than it's own

    Greetings,

I've encountered a maddening issue on a corporate laptop. I dual boot linux via a *separate* internal m2.sata. In other words, my company issued the laptop with one m2.sata, and I installed a second drive for linux. The corporate drive utilizes bitlocker and SafeBoot. On *two* recent upgrades, Windows encrypted my linux EFI partition with bitlocker. I know this as I couldn't boot, booted into a linux via a USB stick, tried to mount my existing linux EFI partition and it reported "unknown partition type: BitLocker".

How do I prevent this? In both cases, I had to re-install a bootloader from scratch and re-create the bootloader configuration from scratch. I want Windows 10 to mind it's own business and completely ignore the second drive.

Happy to post other details if they would be helpful.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

Updating from 1803 to any version other than 2004: I recently revived my old set up from about mid 2018 and the last version that it had was version 1803. I’ve tried to update to 2004 and I always get an error that indicates “This PC can’t be upgraded to windows 10.” This is fine though, because I don’t need to be on 2004....
