Prevent Windows from removing Pinned Taskbar shortcut

Once again, stupid-**** Windows has "lost" the shortcut on the taskbar. If I go to the File Explorer in the Start Menu and right click --> More, there IS a command to Unpin From Taskbar but there is NOTHING to unpin. I can Unpin and the re-Pin the Icon but why the f^@k do I have to do it every few days? How do I make Windows keep my taskbar shortcuts? I see hundreds of posts about this bug with numerous workarounds to fix it, but nothing to prevent it from constantly happening. I work at a real company and can't go hacking into the registry like many users here like to suggest to fix bugs.

    :)

Help with Pinning Excel Files in the taskbar

    Hello! PianSa

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

Certainly! Let’s tackle this step by step. To pin an individual Excel file to the taskbar, we’ll create a custom shortcut and then pin it.

Here’s how you can achieve that:

    1. Create a Shortcut:
      • Right-click on your desktop.
      • Select “New” and then choose “Shortcut.”
      • In the location field, paste the actual path to your Excel file (replace the dummy file path).
      • Click “Next.”
      • Type a name for the shortcut and click “Finish.”
    2. Customize the Shortcut (Optional):
      • By default, the shortcut’s icon will be the File Explorer icon. If you’ve already pinned File Explorer to your taskbar, this can be confusing.
      • To change the icon, right-click the shortcut and select “Properties.”
      • In the properties window, click “Change icon.”
      • Choose an icon or download a custom one in .ico format.
    3. Pin the Shortcut to the Taskbar:
      • Drag and drop the shortcut onto the taskbar.
      • Now your Excel file is pinned to the taskbar, and you can open it with a single click.
Remember that Windows doesn’t directly allow pinning individual files to the taskbar, but creating a custom shortcut provides a workaround. Enjoy quick access to your favorite Excel file!

I have also tried pinning a specific file into the Taskbar, it seems that this doesn't allow you to pin files directly to the Taskbar but only to shortcuts for applications such as Office programs, Browsers, and utilities: notepad and all. However, you can pin the files inside the file explorer as favorites and this will be pinned under Quick Access.

I would suggest to use the feedback hub app for this feature to be added in Windows: Start menu > Search Feedback hub app > I have a suggestion: Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app - Microsoft Support

    I hope this helps!

    Thank you,

  3. How do I add a shortcut to the Taskbar on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your concern on Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description you are unable to add a shortcut to the taskbar in Windows 10. You are right that there is no option to pin the shortcut to the taskbar. However, you should be able to drag and drop the shortcut to the taskbar. If you are unable
to do that try the steps provided below and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

    • Open the network connection page by clicking on the shortcut.
    • Once that page is open, you could see the same in the taskbar.
    • Now, right click on the icon of network connection in the taskbar which is representing your shortcut.
    • Select the option pin to the taskbar.
    • Now the shortcut will be pinned to the taskbar.

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.

    Regards,

    Pinning "Settings" to the Taskbar

I've tried both suggestions. But thanks to your(?) earlier post, I do have an icon pinned to the taskbar for settings.

Both were my posts Prevent Windows from removing Pinned Taskbar shortcut :) In fact, at first I forgot to post the usual steps to pin Settings to taskbar, and rather complicated (which I thought) by suggesting you create a shortcut. Hence the 2nd post. Anyway, glad the shortcut method helped.
