    Preventing Stolen Laptop From Being Used


    If someone steals a Windows laptop (in my case a Surface Pro 6 for example), is there any way to prevent that person from formatting the drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows 10 to bypass my login password? I started thinking about how easy it seems to bypass the Windows login... they may have to remove all the information from the drive (and maybe not even that) but they'll have a perfectly functioning Surface Pro in no time. Is there a security feature that's just not crossing my mind? I've done a decent amount of searching and can't find what I'm looking for.


    It would be nice if there was a way to require a Microsoft account login to reinstall Windows or recover a device. Every so often I format and reinstall Windows to maintain my PC's and I cannot remember a time when it even asks for my password to reset everything.
