Preventing system sleep ONLY while Hyper-V VM is running

Looking for a way to tell the Host Windows 11 OS to not sleep while a Hyper-V VM is running. Powercfg /requestsoverride does literally nothing. I've tried; vmwp.exe is the VM worker and is running while the VM is, mmc.exe is the management interface for Hyper-Vpowercfg /requestsoverride process "C:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe" systempowercfg /requestsoverride process "C:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe" system displaypowercfg /requestsoverride service "C:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe" systempowercfg /requestsoverride service "C:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe" system displaypowercfg /requestsoverride driver

    No sleep options on Hyper-V

Do you have a specific need to have sleep available in a VM, or is your question just out of curiosity? If you just want to suspend its activity, then 'restore down' to have the VM connection in a window on your host machine. Then Pause is available in the Action menu and on the toolbar.

If you specifically need sleep/hibernate for test purposes then no, neither sleep or hibernation are available to the guest OS in a Hyper-V VM. It is possible to enable hibernation for a Hyper-V VM though....
How to enable Sleep/Hibernate on a Hyper-V guest VM? - Super User

Sleep is probably not possible, even on a physical machine it requires a video driver that supports Standby (S3). It's unlikely that the 'Microsoft Hyper-V Video' HyperVideo.sys driver does.

  3. VMs in Hyper V seem to go to sleep

I have a bunch of VMs in Hyper V. They run applications in MS Access that check for network data every 3 minutes.

Sometimes they run for a couple of days with no issues, sometimes they have issues several times in a day.

Issue: The VMs seem to go to sleep, but if you connect to them with Remote Desktop, they wake up.

So for example there is a log of when they make checks. The log will show that they made their checks every 3 minutes then suddenly stopped, but when I log in, they have already made a check because the act of logging in wakes them up and it takes longer to log in than do the check.

I have set the power management to high performance and set the turn off screen to never, but that does not seem to help. Any Ideas?

Not able to connect to Ubuntu VM instance running in Hyper-V on Windows 11

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the Hyper-V authorization policies on your computer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check your Hyper-V authorization policies: Open the Local Group Policy Editor by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, typing "gpedit.msc", and pressing Enter. Navigate to "Computer Configuration" -> "Windows Components" -> "Hyper-V". Check if the policies "Hyper-V Administrators" and "Hyper-V Service" are configured correctly.

Make sure you have the necessary permissions: Ensure that you are logged in as an administrator account or a user with Hyper-V administrator privileges.

Restart the Hyper-V service: Open the Services window by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, typing "services.msc", and pressing Enter. Find the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service, right-click it, and select "Restart".

Check the VM's configuration: Make sure that the VM is still properly configured in Hyper-V Manager, and that it hasn't been accidentally deleted or removed from the list of VMs.

Reinstall Hyper-V: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Hyper-V. You can do this by going to "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel, unchecking the box next to Hyper-V, restarting your computer, and then checking the box again and restarting again.

If none of these steps work, you may need to contact your IT administrator or seek further assistance from Microsoft support.
