Windows 10: Preview folder when hovering with file with the drag and drop function

Dear Community For my previous windows 10 laptop I could hover a file that I wanted to move to another folder location above the file, which triggered a preview of the contents of that file. However with my new laptop Dell XPS, it seems that this is not a default function. It does expand the current folder but this is not as convenient for me as previewing the folder.Any solution appreciated!

Drag and Drop

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

Drag and Drop rarely works

To assist you better, please answer the following questions:

1. Do you receive any error message when you try to drag the files to the new folder?

2. Is the issue specific to a particular folder?

3. What kind of file type are you trying to drag and drop?

Meanwhile I would suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Open the folder which contains the files.

2. To select all files, press Ctrl + A, to select random files, press
Ctrl key and click on the desired file.

3. Drag the files and hover it over the desired folder until you see a "move to
'name of the folder'" option.

4. Drop the files.

Folders will not open when I hover files over them.

i am able to drag and drop, my problem is that i cannot drag and drop directly into a sub folder as when i hover the files i want to move over a folder it does not open.
