Windows 10: Preview pane causes pdf files to open as read only

When the preview pane, in file explorer is on, for displaying a pdf and then they open the file from the share adobe pro opens it in read only. The only problems is they love to use the preview pane to then make mods on it in adobe pro but see the original. Makes them have to save it a new file then rename it back.They use to be able to do it. Ran sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Scan now found errors and fix them. Rebooted and still the same.

Delete and Cut Files with Preview Pane Open

• Have you tried to delete the pdf file in preview panel?
• What exactly happens when try to delete the pdf file?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

  Open File Explorer.

  Select View and click on preview panel.

  Select the pdf file.
  
• 
  At the right corner you will be able to see preview panel.
  
• 
  You can right click on it and delete the files.

Read-Only Problem with Preview Pane

Hello,

I am running Windows 10 with everything up to date. When I have my preview pane active, the larger PDFs and DWG (AutoCAD) files I open show as "Read-Only" which requires me to re-save the item under a different name. I believe the preview pan is interfering
with opening process of documents.

The best option for me is to switch off the preview pane, and not use it.

Is there a patch or way for the preview pane to work without causing files to open as "Read-Only"?

We can see here that you're having an issue with using the preview pane for File Explorer. Since using the preview pane affects the CPU usage when trying to view Office files, we could suggest that you changed your File Explorer View setting into the Navigation
pane by performing the following steps:

• Open File Explorer.
• Click on the View tab.
• Select Preview pane to remove it from being highlighted.

Once done, try to open files using Office apps and check if this helps your Surface Pro 4 works fine.
