Windows 10: Preview Update KB4571462 appears to crash some apps using spell checking in Textboxes

The following Cumulative Preview Update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4571462 has been applied


this is causing a critical app to crash. The steps to replicate are


1. Configure the App written in .NET 3.5 to using spell checking on its WPF TextBox components

2. Use the Windows On Screen Touch Keyboard

3. After some typing some lag appears in the textbox

4. then the app crashes completely


if the WPF built-in spell checking for WPF Textbox components is toggled off then the crashing does not occur.


Note: we believe there may be a race condition between the .NET spell checker and the spell checking that the onscreen touch keyboard is doing.


My question is: Has this problem been reported by others and are you planning to address it?

Spell Check Not Working After Latest Update

It is possible that Spell Checker does not recognize misspelled words after update due to another language is set as default or The
Do not check spelling or grammar check box is selected. To efficiently assist you, we'd like to know if you've tried checking the Word settings.

Meanwhile, we suggest that you follow these methods below about troubleshooting Spell Checker:

Method 1: Enable Check Spelling as you type.

• Click the File tab, and then click Options.
• In the Word Options dialog box, click Proofing.
• Make sure that the Check spelling as you type check box is selected in the
  When correcting spelling and grammar in Word section.
• Make sure that all check boxes are cleared in the Exception for section.
• Click OK.

Method 2: Select language and clear Do not check spelling or grammar.

• Select the entire contents of the document.
• On the Review tab, click Language in the
  Language group, and then click Set Proofing Language.
• In the Language dialog box, select the language that you want.
• If the Do not check spelling or grammar check box is selected, click to clear the check box.
• Click OK.

Note: If this method fixes the problem, repeat steps 1 through 3 to reopen to the
Language dialog box, and then click Set As Default.

No spelling check options while sending the emails

To assist you better, I suggest you to answer the below questions.

• Are you using Mail App or Web app for accessing the mails?
• Previously were you able to set it up for the Spelling check?

If you are using the Mail App, there is no option to set the spelling check. But when you are sending a New Mail you have an option to check the spelling.

• Click on +New Mail. Type the content.
• Above you may click for the Spelling check and check if you are able to use the option.

From your issue description I understand that you need to turn on the Spell check feature in windows mail app.
Follow the steps below to Turn on the spell check in Settings.



1. Type Settings.

2. Click on Device.

3. Select typing.

4. Turn ON autocorrect misspelled word.

5. Turn ON highlight misspelled word.
