Windows 10: Previous Microsoft Account on desktop, new MS acct on laptop- cant get into desktop

Hello,

On my laptop, I set up a new Microsoft account.

Now....I cannot log into my desktop ????!!!!


the account on the desktop log in is showing as the previous MS account

(we know this because the icon is the same picture)

we enter the password for the previous account (that always worked before) and can't log in.


We double checked the password by using the "Eyeball".

I tried entering the password for my new MS account (we know that that shouldn't work, but we're desperate)




I tried resetting the password, but I can't because it's tied to my son's email and he is unreachable by phone for the next week.


I tried resetting the password to his email but had to make a lot of guesses and got a message that they'll let me know if I gave them the right answers.


We have Windows 10 installed on the desktop. It's been installed for months and has been working fine.


HELP ! HELP ! The frustration and anger level is PAINFUL !

MS Acct vs Local acct

I think you can take extra mesurments like two-step authentication, but as you said, using an MS Acct needs you to be more carefull than a local one.

 

Buying a new laptop or desktop for gaming [help]

I want to buy either a new laptop or a new desktop for gaming. I want to run games smoothly and maybe even use it for some ps2 emulation. Could someone suggest either a laptop or desktop? I heard Alienware is expensive and over-rated. I was also told Sager laptops are good for gaming. I have about $1000-$1500 to spend on a new machine. Initially I was going to get a laptop but it seems like I would be able to get a more powerful desktop for the same price or less. Please advise. Please suggest a model/brand [desktop/laptop] that I could purchase because I don't think I know enough about computers to build one from scratch.

 

MS Acct vs Local acct

Sorry but as far as I am concerned it's exactly the opposite. Local account in Windows cannot be two step authenticated, if someone let's say could physically use my computer when I am not present he could try after trying to get in to a local account and although most probably not having any luck (I use quite strong passwords), I would never even know about that.

With an MS Account I have absolutely no worries. I can give you my MS Account email and password and you would still never get in to my account to check my mail, not to speak about into security settings to change my password or other security options. Always on a new browser, one I have not yet verified, or on a new computer, the two step verification jumps in.

Nobody else can sign in to my MS Accounts.
