Windows 10: Primary mouse button resets to default after rebooting my PC

    Primary mouse button resets to default after rebooting my PC


    I am using Windows 10 20H2 but only upgraded to that version yesterday to try fix this issue, before that it was 1904.

    I have a logitech trackball mouse and have set the primary button to be Left instead of Right.

    In the last few days I have had to reboot my pc and the mouse keeps resetting back to the Right.

    I have checked the registry settings and it is set to '1' and I have all the latest drivers.


    Is there something else I can check / try?

    Swap Mouse Button Resets After Reboot

    Hi,

    When you say swap button, is it swapping the left and right click? It's already built in to Windows 10 Creators update. Just go to
    Start > Settings > Devices >
    Mouse    . Change the Select your primary
    button to Right.

    To do this in your current mouse, we suggest uninstalling the mouse driver, reboot your PC to restore generic drivers then change your primary button.

    This issue seems to be cropping up for many people. I have an HP Pavilion and have followed all the advice but the primary button is set as "right" but randomly defaults to "left" even though the setting is showing right. It can work for a while and
    then changes. How can I get this sorted? As a left handed person is it really inconvenient and uncomfortable to have the left button as the primary. I have tried resetting it under mouse options and have used the reset option on the touchpad settings which
    does make it work as a right primary button intitially but then it changes back whilst I am using it.

    Primary mouse button default changes on restart

    I have my mouse buttons switched by default. Every time I shut down / start up or restart, my primary mouse button reverts back to original windows settings.

    I'm using Win 10 with a desktop PC and (currently) a Logitech MX-Anywhere mouse.

    Note that I was previously using a corded Microsoft mouse and that had the same problem- so am guessing it's a Windows thing, not a mouse software driver thing.

    Have looked on Google but the only fix I could find related to a Synaptics setting, as I'm using a desktop I don't have/need Synaptics touchpad drivers.

    How do I fix this?
