Windows 10: Printer driver installs multiple times successfully

When I turn on my backup machine (Win 10 home, 1607 14393.1480) it installs a printer driver multiple times successfully. How can I mark this so it doesn't continually update?

upgraded to Windows 10, now can only print one page at a time in ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

upgraded to Windows 10

installed printer, downloaded driver from HP's website (universal driver since the printer was older - HP 4700 LaserJet)

Initially would only print one page from all programs including MS Office, disabled "Mopier" setting, now can successfully print multiple copies from all programs except ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR 10.

I've tried different drivers with no success. Any suggestions?

I have made no changes to my system other than installing the HP LaserJet 2300 printer about 3 months ago (Dec 25th to be exact) and the Microsoft driver update for HP LaserJet 2300 Series PCL 5 failed to install. Since that date, View Update History shows
it's been "successfully" installed 175 times!!! I have removed the USB cable and remove the HP LaserJet 2300 printer from Printers and then the driver stops installing itself. I waited 3 days to verify and confirmed Windows 10 did not reinstall the driver.

I then reconnected the printer and the madness continues! My computer was turned on at 5pm today, it's 7:30pm and the driver's been "successfully" installed 6 times.

What gives?!?!

I used this process in V1607. This stops all driver updates, which is the way I want it. I tend to drivers as / when required.

Windows + R keys
Enter Sysdm.cpl
Click on Hardware tab
Click on Device Installation Settings
Click on No
A menu appears (first time) click Never Install driver software.
You may get a warning. Click the option that says I’ll take care of it (not exact words)


I found this article and this is what I'm using in 1703. It must be working as my Wi-Fi card requires an ancient driver and I know there are updates, I get one every major update.

In the article quite a ways down there is a link labelled “Disable Automatic Driver Updates Hacks”
This downloads a zip file with two registry hacks. Read the paragraph above the link. I used the hack on my V1703 (Creators). Likely have to run Hack after each major update, Anniversary, Creator, XXXX.

Tried both methods. Neither worked. Still need to find out how to mark this particular update as installed or ignore.

You may also want to run the Windows Update Trouble shooter to see if it will clear the error.
