Windows 10: printer reads offline

My wireless brother printer doesn't give me a hardcopy. It reads it is offline.

• Which build version of Windows is installed on the computer? Refer

Printer Offline

Hello BeverlyFine,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I understand your trying to print using your printer but its offline. What is the make and model of your printer? Please try the methods below:

Step 1. Unplug and restart your printer

Sometimes power cycling your printer can resolve the issue. Turn off your printer and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug your printer back in, and then turn the printer back on.

Step 2. Check cables or wireless connection

Change a printer’s status from “offline” to “online”

Step 3. Check to make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC. Your printer's built-in menu should show which network it's connected to, or check your printer's manual for more info.

Verify that your printer is not in Use Printer Offline mode. Select Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Then select your printer > Open queue. Under Printer, make sure Use Printer Offline is not selected.

Step 4. Install the latest driver for your printer

Most printers require the latest driver to work well.

Step 5. Run the printing troubleshooter

Press Windows+I Search Troubleshoot settings

Select Printer in the list then Run the Troubleshooter

Step 6. Uninstall your Printer driver via Device Manager

Start Control Panel, Search Device Manager.

Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click your printer device entry, and click Uninstall

Printer offline

Hi there,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Could you please help me with the below question:

• Did you make any changes to the computer before this issue started?
  

Printer will continually switch itself to offline mode due to an IP port issue. To keep the printer from switching to offline mode, you must validate the printer's IP address.

Meanwhile, please follow the troubleshooting steps as mentioned below:

Steps:

1. Press Windows andR
   key together on your Keyboard.
2. Type Control and hit enter.
3. Click on Hardware and sound> click on Devices and printers.
   
4. Select the HP Printer 2540, right click on it.
5. Uncheck the option use printer offline and select
   properties.
6. Go to the Ports tab at the top of the pop-up window.
7. Click on "Configure Port"
8. Check that the "Printer Name or IP address:" box is the same as the IP of your printer.
