Printer response is very slow with Win 10 Pro

Epson Stylus SX445W All-in-One Inkjet printer

    1. I have had this printer since 2013 when it was connected to a Windows 7 PC. The original Windows 7 compatible drivers were installed from a CD.
    2. Around 2017 I upgraded the OS to Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and I had to download compatible drivers from Epson since the Win 7 drivers on the CD would not install as incompatible.
    3. Around 2019 I upgraded the OS again to Windows 10 Home (64-bit) and Epson only had the same drivers as they had for Windows 8.1.

In all this time the printer responded within 1 or 2 seconds when sending a print to it.

Problem - In January 2021 I bought a new PC with Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) OS updated to version 20H2, build 19042.804. Again, Epson only had the same drivers as they had for Windows 8.1 and they do work but I immediately noticed that the printer is now slow to respond. It now takes 25 seconds from clicking Print before the printer starts to print.

The new PC is connected to the printer via the same USB cable as previously and it is a faster machine. My old PC (from 2013) had an overall Novabench score of 1095 whilst the new PC has a score of 1681. The old PC Novabench CPU score was 441 and the new PC is 1049.

I know incompatibility issues get worse as time goes on when the old printer has to talk to a modern OS but I dont want to have to buy a new A-I-O printer just yet (Even if one can buy one, Covid has pushed prices up) so I was wondering if it was a setting that I need to weak in Windows 10 Professional that was not needed in the previous Home version.

Has anyone any suggestions other than buy a new printer.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

  2. Win 10 Pro - Upgrade - Printer Error

After upgrading to Win 10 Pro from Win 7 Pro, I have this issue -

All devices and programs work except for a Epson LQ-590 dot matrix printer.

The printer is not auto-detected but I can manually install the printer. However Printers/Scanners shows the printer name but when printing a test page it states the printer is in a error state. The printer shows no issues (and the printer worked before
    the upgrade).

In Device Manager, the printer is listed under 'Other Devices' as Epson LQ-590. I can right click Update Driver, it finds a newer drive, downloads the driver and installs, but at the end it states "there was a error with the installation, see if the manufacturer
has updated drivers on there web page". There are no drivers on the web page.

The printer is connected via a USB (from computer) to parallel adapter (Centronics printer connector) on the other.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Win 10 Pro - Devices and Printers

OK, thanks for letting us know. No further suggestions as this time. BTW I have both an Epson XP-960, as well as a 3880 and no issues. Point? I doubt it's an Epson driver issue.

    @WOT,

Devices and Printers working just fine here under Windows 10 Pro x64. Version 1703, Build 15063.296...

No issue prior to the Creator update either.

  4. Printer response is very slow with Win 10 Pro

Reloading - retrieving my installed WIN 10 PRO

Thanks for the quick and detail response. Just to make sure I understand your procedure, here are the steps I will do:

    1. Download Win10586PESE-x64 v16.07.07 (new) ISO and burn to a DVD.

    2. Place DVD in computer and power ON boot from DVD
    3. Run Macrium Reflect. Under the restore menu will be a utility to fix Windows startup problems. Try that utility to see if that restores booting to Windows 10
    4. When Windows startup utility finishes, remove DVD and power OFF computer
    5. Power ON and see if WIN 10 boots.
    6. If WIN 10 boots, check for normal operation, etc.
    7. If WIN 10 does not boot; re-install full WIN 7 disk image.
    8. Download and save Windows 10 ISO file tofolder on C:\ drive
    9. Down load and save:WinISO file on C:\ drive.
    10. Run and install WinISO according to http://www.winiso.com/support/tutorials/mount-iso-in-windows7.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">
[*]Run WinISO, open the Windows 10 ISO file stored on C:\. I assume there will be some type of BROWSE menu so you can select the Windows 10 ISO file?
[*] Click "Mount" and a file menu of the files in the Windows 10 ISO file will appear.
[*]Double click to Run setup.exe.from the WINDOWS 10 ISO file menu
[*]This should upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 10 - This same procedure as the “Free” upgrade from WIN 7 PRO to WIN 10 PRO. When finished WIN 10 PRO will be installed and ALL WIN 7 PRO program files, drivers, printers and data files from WIN 7 PRO will be available for use. To be explicit this is an install of WIN 10 PRO and a “TRANSFER/ UPGRADE of WIN 7 PRO program files, drivers, printers and data files. This is NOT a CLEAN INSTALL of WIN 10 PRO

JUST WANT TO MAKE MAKE SURE I UNDERSTAND THE EXPECTED RESULTS

    1. The newly created WIN 10 PRO install should activate based upon your previously activated upgrade. I assume the setup program will access some Microsoft data base and find my previous activation?

Please excuse the long list, but I find it better to ask questions now, rather than try to unwind some misunderstanding later.

I do appreciate your time and support!

    Thanks
