  1. Printer sharing

I have two PCs working in a Home Workgroup. When i upgraded both PCs to version 1803 i lost the ability to share the printer on PC2 with PC1. The PC1 printer could still be shared with PC2. I have struggled with this problem for several months, trying everything i could find posted about this problem. Today i have solved it. I found the PC2 printer name had been changed from what i had written down when sharing was originally setup. The PC1 printer name had not changed. When i checked the PC2 printer properties i found the driver name had also been changed. The name was the same as the original name except the word Printer had been added to the end of the original name. I dont know how it was changed but i am beginning to suspect that when i upgraded to version 1803, PC2 received an update for the printer driver which had the name change. The update to version 1803 for PC1 either didnt get a new printer driver, or it did and the name didnt change. Since that time both PCs have been updated to version 1809 and the sharing problem has continued until i found the cause. When i reinstalled the PC2 printer on PC1 i used the changed PC2 printer name and the sharing was restored. I have not seen this discussed anywhere as causing this problem and wonder if anyone else has seen the name of a shared printer being changed. A simple fix for a very unexpected problem.

    :)

    Can't share printer—getting error message

    Step 1: Go to store.
Step 2: Buy a less shitty printer.
Step 3: Pick up some beer while you are there.
Step 4: Enjoy both your new printer and your beer.

In all seriousness, I have had more issues with Lexmark printers and their shitty drivers then any other manufacturer, HP is a close second though.

However, if you don't want to get a new printer*Laugh , and I can understand that, when my Lexmark was giving me the same troubles in Win7(and Vista) I had to make sure the Windows firewall was ON and the firewall service was enabled and running. After I shared it I could re-disable the firewall and firewall services.

Yeah, I have windows firewall disabled, and I don't use any other firewall... mostly to prevent stupid issues like this.

None taken... and yeah, I do.
