Windows 10: Printers: It prints back-to-back on my HP, but not my Brother printerhad no problem with...

HP printer prints back-to-back, but my Brother printer doesn't, but was able to on my older computer. New computer has Microsoft 11.

Windows 10 Home Won't Print to Remote Printer


I have three computers.
Machine 1: Windows 10 pro, has the USB Brother HL-5040 printer
Machine 2: Windows 10 pro, prints OK to the remote printer.
Machine 3: Windows 10 home, Used to print, but not anymore (THIS IS THE PROBLEM).
I’ve tried everything that I can think of, and would appreciate any suggestions.
I did these steps on Machine 3 that did not work.

1. Remove the printer device.
2. Add a Printer
3. The printer that I want isn’t listed
4. Select a shared printer by name
5. Browse
6. Select the displayed Machine 1.
7. Select the displayed Printer.
8. Next
9. Failure “Connect to Printer”.
10. Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or Hostname
11. Next
12. Set Hostname to Machine 2, and set port name.
13. Detecting TCP/IP Port
14. Additional Port information required.
15. Device Type – Standard, Brother Port Server
16. Next
17. Detecting the Driver Model
18. Install The Print Driver
19. Select Brother and Brother HL-5040
20. Next
21. Replace the Current Driver
22. Printer Name (setting it to HL-5040)
23. Next
24. Do not share this printer
25. Next
26. You’ve successfully added “HL-5040”
27. Finish

Printing on Machine 3 puts the document in the print queue, which reports error printing.
Printing from Machine 2 to the printer on Machine 1 works perfectly.
All three machines are in the same HomeGroup. Machine 3 can access the shared files from Machine 1.

Follow the suggestions under the “faint” print topic. Light print is not a typical print problem requiring repair. Light print is usually a problem with your printer supplies, making it a consumables problem and not a printer hardware problem. Use a genuine brother toner cartridge and drum unit. Also check for the “toner save” feature that might be turned on.

If the light print continues, it is almost certainly the transfer roller that is causing the issue. However, it can be an electrical issue as well as an issue with the laser assembly.

Transfer rollers are usually a simple replacement but I don’t see a transfer roller available for this model of printer. Therefore, if using new, genuine supplies does not fix the problem the printer is not serviceable or is not worth the cost of repairing.

 

Wireless Brother printer will not print

Thanks for trying. Actually the problem is not that I don't know how to print, it is that the printer does not print.

And, I get useless, meaningless error messages that essentially say 'did not work'.

I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to have error messages that:

• Cannot highlight to cut/paste into a message to tell you the EXACT message I got
• Have no number, so I could merely say I got error message PRT12345.

The simplicity of reporting problems accurately would have been increased hugely, 25 years ago. But, that is another story. The chance of that happening now is zero. Just live with vague meaningless error messages and keep a pen and paper handy so you
can write them down, word for word, to share the meaningless message with others.

Back to the problem. I had actually done all that you said already.

Windows 10 Support - That is how I got 'here', reporting the problem (after looking around)

Brother - HL-2270DW - Drivers - Troubleshooting on left side panel of page - This is mostly FAQ - I have been through many/most, but my problem is not found.

Brother - Support - I did a cut/paste of this problem and put it into an email. Waiting to hear. But, as I went through the various troubleshooting steps above, it wound down to 'contact your
computer/software vendor'

Brother - Compatibility list

Reviewed information here, but there is no compatibility problem. I'm 100% certain, since the printer prints totally fine on the old computer, that the printer is fine. It is a 'user error' in configuration/setup. I just can't find what I need to do.
