Windows 10: Problem after recovery/reset

HI all,
I think I partly created my own original problem by changing the name of the computer.
Shortly after I was no longer an insider, "Get Insider Builds" had a box underneath with
"fix me", and pressing this gave an error 0x80310052.
Some kind of no-mans land, activated, but not in the program.

To cut a long story, I ran recovery/reset. This reinstalled Windows. I wasn't sure what it was going to do,
but it reinstalled from within, I didn't give it any media. When It was done, according to the info bottom right,
it says "evaluation copy build 10525". (Which I think it was before).

According to settings/update and security, I'm an insider again,
no errors that I can see. (although no new build has yet to appear)

The second thing that happened after the "reset" is that my older OS, Windows XP, is no longer accessible
at boot time. Before I did all this, , a screenused to appear where you either
select WIndows 10, or "Older versions of Windows". This screen no longer shows up. Instead there is a grey
screen for about 3 seconds, then it goes straight to the logon screen for windows 10.

Now the only way I can boot XP is to use a floppy and boot from there.

The first thing I thought of was bootrec /rebuildbcd . But that's for older versions of Windows.

Anybody have any idea about this situation? Thanks for any info.

What happens exactly? Any error messages? Can you access the phone's features or are you completely locked out?

 

What Might work is adding a menu entry using EasyBCD from NeoSmart Technologies. After you download and install that, click Add New Entry button, then in Operating Systems on the Windows tab, in the Type pulldown select the option containing XP, type a name into the Name: box, and select the drive containing XP in the Drive box.

After that, click the Add Entry button.

When done, click the View Settings button on the left and confirm the new entry is there.

 

thanks for mentioning this option, but first I'm going to see if it can be fixed within Windows 10.

I had heard Windows 10 did (does?) have a legacy style boot menu option, but I've not seen any details of it.
