Windows 10: Problem Detaching Clipboard; Surface Book Keeps Freezing on Me

I own a Surface Book with Performance Base and I have been struggling to detach the clipboard for about three months now. Whenever I press on the detach button on the base or on the screen, I am told "following need to be closed in order to detach"... and then I will see a list of names like Microsoft Teams, 'StartMenuExperienceHost', YourPhone, etc. I go into those apps and close them; yet, the clipboard won't detach.

Also, the machine often freezes on me. I have often press the volume up + power button approach to reboot. But certainly, there is something wrong with my machine. I have made sure all my updates are current.

What is going on? Can you help? I still have warranty.

Hi Robert,

If a background app prevents your Surface Book to be detached, we recommend that you disable this application to run in the background. To disable a background app, follow the steps below:

• Click the Start button and select the Settings
  icon.
• Choose Privacy from the list.
• Select Background apps in the left pane of the window.
• Under Choose which apps can run in the background, look for the application and toggle it off.

i had the same problem and i think i found the solution here:

you just go in control panel and there you have the nvidia control if that is set to nvidia, you should set it to "automatic" and if that does not do the job, you can set to internal graphics. i switched to automatic and so far it does the trick

i am surprised that no one from support here was able to give this suggestion.

(where lockapp comes from is yet another issue, but if it does not show up anymore, who cares...)

it worked!....set it to automatic...did require a reboot for it to work...
