Problem formating pc with Windows 10 OEM DVD, stuck at windows logo

    Hello,

I bought a Windows 10 OEM DVD in order to format my current PC that runs Windows 7 professional which probably has been infected with a virus and has some issues. I backed up everything I needed and set the boot priority in BIOS to boot from CD/DVD.

I insert the Windows 10 DVD I bought in the drive and start the PC. It correctly boots from DVD and I can see the Windows 10 blue logo, but that's all I see. Nothing else happens, it just stays there for over an hour.

In order to check whether there is a problem with the DVD, I opened the DVD from inside Windows 7 and I was able run setup.exe and it proceed fine but I did not actually complete the procedure since I don't want to upgrade my current OS.

    What I want is:
1.Boot from the Windows 10 OEM DVD.
    2. Run diskpart and the "clean all" to wipe the drive clean to make sure that if there are any infections, they are removed.
3.Install Windows 10 on the clean HDD.

    My PC specs are:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO E8400 @ 3 GHz
    Memory: 4GB
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
    Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Deluxe

Now I am currently stuck at (1) because the DVD is stuck at the Windows 10 blue logo and I cannot proceed to the setup menu. Can anyone please give me some tips to resolve this issue?

    :)

  2. Stuck at windows logo when trying to install windows 10 using a bootable dvd

I created a bootable dvd using the Windows Media Creating tool. When I boot the the PC off the DVD, it gets stuck at the blue windows logo (no spinning thing). I waited for an hour and still stuck at the logo.

Windows 10 Setup stuck on black screen and loading circle

My Windows 10 wasn't working, so I formatted my Pc and tried to reinstall windows. It was working until it reached "Getting Ready". It was stuck on that screen for 2-3 hours, so I rebooted my PC. Now, my Pc is stuck on the Windows logo with a spinning circle.
This has been going on for a long time already.

    PS:

    1. I can't access Windows at all.

    2. It took at least 10 hours to prepare files for copying.

Seems like other P5Q Deluxe owners are also having problems updating to Windows 10; however, you might want to read through these posts because a few have reported some success with undocumented workarounds:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=inst...utf-8&oe=utf-8

Also, your motherboard only shows support for (up to) Windows 8.1 and is not listed as being Win 10 compatible on the ASUS website.

    Good luck,

Hello WOT, thank you for your answer.

I already looked around online to try to solve this issue on my own before creating this thread. I also suspected that it might be the motherboard, because I also checked in the ASUS website and did not see any drivers for Windows 10. But from what I read most people did not have any issues with this mobo, also in this thread Let's run Win10 on really really old hardware - Page 12 - - Windows 10 Forums from this forum I saw a response that said that with a clean install there where no issues.

That is why I decided to post my issue in a new thread, in order to get some help to look further as to why this happens.

Thanks for your response; however, much of the information you provided in your second post should have been included in your first post so others (trying to help) would know "what else" you have already done. With that said, I would have never responded to your request, knowing that you had already done all that I suggested.

You are right, but I would never start a discussion without first trying to look if the solution is already somewhere online *Smile but in retrospect I can see how it would have been helpful to explicitly state this, sorry.

For what its worth I'm running Windows 10 on an old ASUS M4N68T-M V2 and an even older ASUS M2N68-AM SE2 motherboard. ASUS only lists Windows 7 drivers for them. Even my ASUS K75DE laptop only has Windows 8 drivers listed, its running Windows 10 too without issue. Just because an OEM doesn't offer drivers for Windows 10, doesn't mean you shouldn't at least give it a try.
Wish I could help with the circling dots issue. The Windows 10 ISO you get with the Media Creation Tool will accept OEM keys by the way.

Use the "download tool now" option, save it and run it. Then either save an ISO or use it to create install media. The thumb drive option may be the way to go and bail you out. 8 gig or bigger will work.

Why not? Apparently you still get a digital licence if you upgrade a licensed copy of Win7. Make a system image before you start, just in case. You could then try a clean install and it should activate from the digital licence.

You could also do the upgrade but select the "Save nothing" path. That's pretty close to a clean install.

from what I also read around I also think that it shouldn't be a problem to install Windows 10 on a system with a P5Q Deluxe motherboard, but currently I am stuck. In your case did you update the BIOS on your ASUS motherboards to the latest version?

Thank you for your suggestions. I have already thought about these possibilities but I really don't want to upgrade from within the current OS or burn an ISO from this PC using the Media creation tool from within the OS because I suspect there is a nasty virus on it and I don't want to risk transferring it to the new installation.

Just to give you an idea I cannot start any antivirus on it, I tired to use several ( avg, kaspersky, comodo, windows security essentials) and after installing, none of them will start. Also, windows update service is missing and I don't know what else might be missing. I could only use one feature of MBAM and only trojan and spyware software(trojan hunter, Spybot S&D and Super Antispyware) but again no antivirus feature of any of them will start.
In general, all of them report the same error: service failed to start due to the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. I also tried to use Wireshark to see what traffic is sent out of this PC but even wireshark won't work properly. Finally, I was only able to use ESET Online Antivirus to do a scan and found some threats.

In any case, I have given up on it and I want to wipe clean the drive using the clean Windows 10 Boot DVD as mentioned in my original post.

Finally, sorry if this is a naive question but I don't want to risk any more damage to this PC. So, if I decide to update my BIOS and use this PC to write the BIOS update to a usb in order to flash it, is it possible that a virus could transfer to the BIOS?

  12. All 3 of my ASUS PC's are running the latest available BIOS. They were doing so long before I upgraded them to Windows 10. The laptop is UEFI and the other two are legacy BIOS.

Do you have access to another PC?

I don't know if my BIOS are the latest. Probably not since I never updated it. I can get access to another PC at some point within the week.

  14. Get prepared for when you get access. Have a 8 gig or bigger thumb drive handy, and other external media big enough to save an ISO. Then use the MCT to create a bootable install thumb drive. I'd download an ISO too just for backup. Download the latest BIOS too, if you think that's an issue. Flashing the BIOS would be the last thing I would do. Download the instructions, print them out if you can. Be warned If you mess up flashing your BIOS you will no doubt end up with a nice big paper weight or door stop. Updating the BIOS is not the same thing as updating a driver. If it goes wrong bad things can happen.

Are there any devices which you could temporarily disable in your BIOS, or disconnect to get it setup? For instance I know some machines need Bluetooth to be disabled and people have to setup with a wired keyboard and mouse. Obviously you can't disconnect everything though - for instance you probably need some form of display.
