  1. Problem identifying TV display correctly

    I have a strange issue...

Just moved into a flat with a new TV. First time I plugged my laptop in via HDMI, it worked fine.

The next day, plugged it in - only displayed in 640x480

Rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled display drivers, no change.

Tried it my other laptop - same problem,

Plugged it into my work laptop, worked fine, 1920x1080

Once I've plugged it into my work laptop, I can then plug the HDMI back into my laptop, and the display stays at 1920x1080. But if I reboot, it goes back to VGA

Under advanced display options, when it's working it ids the display as 40W_LCD_TV, when it's not it just says : wired display, and the Active Signal Resolution is 640x480 desktop resolution is still 1920x1080

Again, plugging the tv into my work laptop, then moving the hdmi cable back to my laptop fixes the issue without rebooting.

    I'm very confused.

    :)

Does a 1080 tv ever display an image correctly...

Oh the native res was always listed somewhere, but that didn't stop them from slapping huge 1080i stickers on the packaging and advertising them as 1080i TVs. The front of the box would have huge 1080i logos on it, and the real native resolution would be listed in a small table of specs on the side of the box. But that was the beginning of the HDTV era, now that trick doesn't really work anymore, so they label the TVs 720p, the term 1080i has pretty much died.
