  1. [Problem]: Listening to the virtual cable input disables other microphones from being used!...

    Hello,

I'm having a problem with my audio routing & setup within windows. I record videos & livestream music production from the machine in question and I have issues with my audio setup since I recently installed windows 10. I use the following setup:

    Recording:

Ableton Live 10 to generate audio, going to my behringer UM2 Audio Interface

Audacity recording the Line In of my behringer UM2 Audio Interface (XLR mic Input)

OBS to record Ableton screen & Desktop audio

Virtual Cable to route Google Chrome audio to Ableton

    Streaming:

Ableton Live 10 to generate audio, going to my behringer UM2 Audio Interface

Virtual Cable to route Google Chrome audio to Ableton

Streamlabs OBS recording both desktop & Line In of my behringer UM2 Audio Interface

The problem is that in order to use virtual cable You need to enable "listen to device" in the properties of the recording device. Once I do this I'm no longer able to access the Line In on my audio interface. I've noticed that once I enable "listen to device", the host process starts to use the mic This probably means windows 10 doesn't allow more than 1 microphone at the time. Is there a way to fix this?

Mic Input Playing - While Listen To Device is disabled

When an application is listening to the microphone, I can hear it playing everything it hears back to me.

Device: SteelSeries Diablo 3 USB Headset

    SteelSeries Engine 3 - Installed

Listen to this device - Disabled

But when an application goes to use the microphone it starts playing back to me, even if its just opening the Recording Devices window

    Any Ideas?

    - Edit

All other input devices are disabled

No other audio management software is installed.

    Microphone input endlessly repeats itself

A shot in the dark but this could explain your issue.

It is possible with all audio recording devices to record also the audio signal coming from selected speakers. This is called Listening. This is a practical feature when you want to for instance record a VoIP / Skype call, record a video with system sounds and so on.

When a recording device like for instance microphone is set to listen speakers, it causes audio feedback.

When listening is enabled, Windows Volume Mixer shows the recording device. You need to mute the microphone as shown in this screenshot:

Muting a listening microphone in Volume Mixer does not mute the microphone itself, it just mutes the looping feedback audio. You can still use the microphone normally.

If you do no longer want the microphone to listen speakers, right click your default microphone in Sound Properties / Recording devices, select Listen tab and disable listening:

This might not be the reason for your issue but is definitely worth checking.

    Easy enable/disable microphone?

My bro just got a microphone and I was wondering if there's an easy way to enable or disable it. I know you can right click on the volume icon, click on select recording devices then select the microphone, then click properties, then click on levels, and mute it - but that's just way too many steps, I'm looking for a more obvious and much easier way to do it.
