    Problem opening FTP media files

Hello, I was wondering if you have any solutions on how to open video files from an external drive shared through a router? I open the path in vain, and even though the appropriate VLC media player is installed on Windows, when opening the file, Windows says that no application is associated with this file type, and this one called VLC does not even appear in the drop-down list application. And when I go to search for applications from the store, it is interesting that it tries to search for an application for me using the keyword "ftp", not even for mp4 or mkv. Thank you in advance for your

    :)

  2. Open FTP site Via File Explorer

    I use these steps:

To create a shortcut to open an FTP site in Windows Explorer

    • Open Computer by clicking the Start button

      , and then clicking Computer.

    • Right-click anywhere in the folder, and then click Add a Network Location.

    • This displays the Add Network Connection wizard. Click Next.

    • In the wizard, select Choose a custom network location, and then click Next.

    • Enter the name of the FTP site, with the full FTP:// in front of it, and then click Next.

    • To use a name and password, clear the Log on anonymously check box. Type a user name, and then click Next.

    • By default, the name of the shortcut is the same as the FTP address. If you want to give the shortcut a different name, type it in the Type a name for this network location box. Click Next.

    • If you do not want the FTP site to open after you're done setting up the shortcut, clear the Open this network location when I click Finish check box. Click Finish. A shortcut to
the FTP site appears in the Computer folder. You can drag that shortcut to your desktop so that it's easy to find later.

I use my phone as FTP server and connect to PC via Router.

These step working perfectly in WIn7. But since i upgraded to Win10. I am not able to open the FTP site into File Explorer. FTP site opening perfectly in Browser. I also tried View> Open FTP in File Explorer. But nothing happened after clicking that link
    option.

  4. Problem opening FTP media files

IE 11 in Windows 10 not allow files to open in FTP portal

Originally my laptop was using Windows 8.1 and I got to upgrade to Windows 10 recently. Before upgrade I can still open files in ftp portal and am able to upload, download and delete files there but I totally failed to do so after upgraded
to Windows 10. Before I put my question here I have asked the Microsoft CS Officer in Hong Kong about my issue then they gave me this link for reference to get the helpful answer.

    Redirecting

However I have gone through the entire article and tried certain suggestion but still don’t work. Honestly there have some suggestions are too difficult to understand and some that I daren’t to follow and don’t know how to follow such as methods
    as below.

    My questions are:

    • Does Windows 10 still support IE 11 allow files to open in FTP portal?

    • The following instructions are tailor-made for Windows 7 and how about the terms for Windows 10?

    • I tried but I really don’t know how to do Method 1 & 2, even though I know it but scare to do the resetting because I don’t know what will be happened? I just did Method 3 the second part, it was fine but not the normal setting
that I wanted as usual just type the ftp address in the browser then open in a separated window. I can do everything there!

Can any top level users or technicians help me to solve this problem? Many thanks in advance!

    Method 1:

    Enable FTP folder view
    option.

    a. Open Internet Explorer, Click "Tools".

    b. Select "Internet Options".

    c. Open "Advanced" tab.

    d. Take a look at "Enable FTP folder view (Outside of Internet Explorer)" checkbox. Verify it if it isn't checked already.

    e. Repeat the previous step with "Use Passive FTP".

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

I would suggest try opening the website in compatibility view. To do so, you can refer to the following article.

Fix site display problems with Compatibility View

    Step 2:

If the issue still persists, I would also suggest you to reset Internet Explorer 11. You can refer to the following article to do so.

Change or reset Internet Explorer settings

Change or reset Internet Explorer settings - Microsoft Support

Note: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings
feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature. Resetting Internet Explorer.

    Method 3:

Temporarily disable the firewall/ anti-virus and check if it helps.

Important: Make sure you enable the anti-virus if the issue still persists. If the issue resolves then you may need to check the settings or uninstall and reinstall the software.
