  1. Problem to solve unmountable boot volume error with flash drive boot

    Hello everyone

I have a Samsung laptop using Windows 10 and a couple of days ago a blue screen with an unmountable boot volume error showed up after booting, saying the computer would be restarted. After restart a loading recovery option message shows up with the samsung logo and then just a black screen appear and stays like that for hours.

After doing some research I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and uploaded it to my flash drive so I could boot using it and access the advanced option menu through the installation window. After that I plugged it in my laptop and tapped F2 until the BIOS menu appeared. I disabled Secure Boot and selected UEFI OS for OS boot selection, after restarting it again I now tapped F10 and a list with boot options showed, I selected my flash drive and in the first try a windows installation window appeared and I could open the advanced options menu and tried to use the command prompt to make a drive check up and restore as the instructions I found to solve this problem suggested, but the command prompt didn't start and there were just a frozen blue screen. I restarted the computer once again and this time I was going to follow the other way to solve it using the restore option in the advanced option menu.

Although, when I tried to access the menu again, it didn't work, I just got a black screen after the windows logo shows up for a few seconds and everytime I try it happens over and over again.

I'm trying to do the Media Creation Tool again but using the ISO option instead of uploading it directly to the flash drive, but I'm not sure if it's going to work.

Is there anything else I can do?

I can't create a restore drive because it needs a 32 GB flash drive and I don't have one right now.

    Thanks in advance

    Pedro

    :)

  2. Unmountable Boot Volume Windows 10

When I boot it normally I get the Unmountable Boot volume. When I try to boot it from the flash drive or the cd I just get a window logo that eventually turns black, but the error message doesn't appear.

  5. Thanks for the help!
I'm not really good at this, could you point which option should I use from the list of options? Also, can it only point whats wrong or can it also make my computer work?

I see the options avaiable are:

    "
    Option 1 - /ScanHealth > if shows as Repairable,
    then
Option 2 - /RestoreHealth > if shows as Missing Source Files,
    then
    Option 3 - /RestoreHealth /source

    Note:
Dism uses the component store as it's main source for Image Repair, so best to Select Option 2
Before Selecting Option 3 and redirecting the repair source, to the Windows Setup Media..

Option 4 > will analyze the component store, it will tell you if the store needs to be cleaned up

Option 5 > will cleanup (Remove) superseded windows files over 45 days old in the component store

Option 6 > will cleanup (Remove) ALL superseded windows files in the component store

Option 7 > will run System File Checker - SFC /Scannow

Option 8 > will run Revert Pending Dism Actions (UnLock, The Locked Disk Message)

Option 9 > will run Disk Cleanup Manager in Extended Mode

Option 10 > will run CheckDisk on a Volume, to scan for and fix disk errors..

Option 11 > will run ShowKeyPlus to retrieve windows product key

Option 12 > will export 3rd Party System Drivers into a "Drivers" folder

Option 13 > will run a MS Tool that will Automatically move all the User files from the Windows.old folder to the corresponding locations within your new Windows installation.

Option 14 > will run a MS Tool that will Generate a GenuineTicket.xml File

Option 15 > will run Never10 to Enable or Disable the Windows 10 GWX Upgrade

Option 16 > will run a program to Download > MS Windows OS & MS Office < ISO's from TechBench"

    Edit:

I just checked the message you told me to see. So I should download the ISO file? How can I get access to that /sources folder from Kyhi's Recovery Tool so I can replace it in the flash drive?

Download the ISO file. Right click on it (in Windows 8 or 10) and select Mount. A new drive letter will open and there you can access the /sources folder. If you are using Windows 7 you will need a program to mount the ISO file such as WinCDEmu:

  7. Okay, so I downloaded the ISO file and mounted it. Copied the boot.wim file to the original windows 10 install flash drive and plugged it in the lap top. Although there were no change, I still get the frozen black screen.. I also burned the ISO file to another usb and tried to boot my computer with it but it also gets me to a frozen black screen..
One curious thing happened though. The first time I used the USB with the new boot.wim file the black screen would show the mouse coursor now, which didn't appeared at all before. But on the second try it disappeared again

Is it possible that my HD is fried and need change? If so its better to buy a new computer?

Even if the hard drive is bad, you should be able to boot from the USB flash drive - unless you also happen to have a bad flash drive. Might want to try a different flash drive - just a cheap USB 2.0 plain flash drive, usually less than $10. If you can't get the computer to boot from the flash drive, you might want to try a bootable version of Linux to see if it something in the latest upgrade of Windows that is not compatible. Then you might want to take it apart and look at blowing the insides out with air and disconnecting and reconnecting things like RAM, network card, etc.
