Windows 10: Problem Updating Microsoft Defender Antivirus

hello, I am currently on an old Image on Windows 10 basically the Antimalware Client isn't updated to its latest version. I don't know on how to install it as I seem to be running into a pickle of a update.


My current version on the Microsoft Defender Antivirus Antimalware Client Version is 4.18.2011.6

Defender AntiVirus

There are 4 options under Defender. Two refer to AntiVirus; AntiVirus Network Inspection Service & AntiVirus Services. Under Startup Type these two are listed as manual and the Status column said Inspection Service is running. When I clicked on the Start
button in Properties, I got an immediate message: "Win.. Def.. Anti.. Serv.. on local comp.. started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Hi mknic,
I have literally just installed the definition update KB2267602 without any problem. I suggest as a first step checking all the Windows Defender settings to make sure they all have the 'green ticks' in each section.






ps. The only reason the 'Family Options' is not ticked is because I am the only user on my computer.

I also would suggest running the 'Troubleshoot' feature in the Update & Security settings which has a section dealing with update problems.

 

Security Intelligence Update for Winodws Defender Antivirus - KB226760

My WIN10 PC, running v 1903 reported code 0x80070643 as it sought to download a Windows Defender Antivirus update. I didn't know Windows Defender Antivirus was running as I use only AVG. I manually downloaded WIN10 update v 1909 hoping the latest Microsoft WIN10 update would fix the problem but this hasn't helped. I have tried all suggestions made by Microsoft Community Forum, without success. I've also completed an "In-Play" (?) update of Windows, again without success.

I guess I can just ignore the error message but it would good if there is a general solution if other users have suffered this problem.
