  1. Problem when trying to resize/add more space to the System Partition in Windows 10

Hi. I want to increase the Recovery Partition of my SSD on Windows 10 but I have been trying several methods and programs such as AOMEI and Minitool Partition Wizard for example and none of them allow me to increase or move the Recovery Partition so it can be next to the unassigned space so then I can increase it.I want to increase it because I can't update Windows, I already did the steps of this other article but no success: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/-we-couldn-t-update-system-reserved-partition-error-installing-windows-10-46865f3f-37bb-4c51-c69f-07271b6672acAlso, I was wonde

  2. Resize Windows 10 System Partition

    Hi Adrain,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, and we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if that helps.

    • Run Disk Management. Open Run Command (Windows button +R) a dialog box will open and type "diskmgmt.msc".
    • In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select “Extend Volume” from the menu
    • Locate your system partition — that’s probably the C: partition. Right-click on it and select “Shrink Volume.” If you have multiple partitions on your hard drive, you could also choose to resize a different partition to free up space.

Hope the information helps. Please let us know if the issue persist and we will be happy to assist you further.

  3. no system reserved partition. trying to upgrade to windows 10

Then please assign a letter to the 100mb System partition, open it in Explorer and post back a screenshot so we can see what is clogging it.

100mb should normally be enough space unless something has written to it.

If you cannot delete the intruding files then you need to expand System Reserved to 500mb which will solve the problem. It is easy to do using Partition Wizard Resize function if you don't want to pay for the Extend function. Just watch the video I gave
to learn how to take 400mb from the left side of C, apply that step, then Resize the right side of 100mb partition to the right to take up the space.

I will be here to help you.

  4. Problem when trying to resize/add more space to the System Partition in Windows 10

Storage spaces, Resize-Partition : Invalid Parameter

    Hello,
I am facing a problem when trying to resize a volume under storage spaces.
In powershell I can extend the virtualdisk but afterwards when I try to extend the partition I get the following error
The following screenshot is to demonstrate the issue

Problem when trying to resize/add more space to the System Partition in Windows 10 [IMG]

    Resize-Partition : Invalid Parameter
    Activity ID: {5333086d-a957-0003-d208-335357a9d301}
    At line:1 char:1

    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument: (StorageWMI:ROOT/Microsoft/.../MSFT_Partition) [Resize-Partition], CimException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : StorageWMI 5,Resize-Partition

As a result the virtualdisk can resize with no problems and right now is at 37.2TB, but the volume is still 28.9TB

The storage spaces have more than enough free space and also I have successfully created a 60.4TB volume W: which is empty.
My data is on H: and this is the volume I cannot resize

Note that I have successfully resized the storage space some months ago following the same procedure and my guess is that in the recent updates this ability has been messed up. I have the same issue on two other pcs with storage spaces that cannot be extended.
Windows 10 Pro for workstations v1709 build 16299.248

Has anyone faced the same problem lately? And what are your ideas on the problem?

    Kind regards,
    Dimitris
