Windows 10: Problem with activating windows 10 education

Recently my system SSD has died and because the replacement will take ages to acquire I tried installing Windows on an external drive.
After finding out that the installator does not support that function I've turned to WinToUSB utility and it has worked.
After the usual driver and utility installation, I've activated my windows using a key from Azure Dev tools for teaching and it went without a hitch.
Day after however, after a couple of hours of working the system deactivated - and it says that way, not accepting the key provided previously.
Can this be fixed? Is the key burned because of this?

Does it matter that this article is about Windows 10 Pro or do I have to follow the same steps to activate windows education on Windows 10 Home?Thanks a lot

Windows 10 Activation (Insider)

How long did you wait for activation?
When I re-installed with a fresh install... it took a few hours to sync and activate.
However, it did, finally, activate.
