Windows 10: Problem with Administrator/Standard Account

Hello! I accidentally changed two of my Microsoft accounts from "Administrator" to "Standard." I am now unable to do a lot of things, including reinstalling Windows 11, which I saw was an option for fixing this issue, ironically. I have tried typing "netplwiz" and running it, but a window popped up saying "To continue, enter an admin username and password," and the only option was to click "No" without any "Yes" options to click on. This same window has popped up many times when trying to do things, and no online help from websites has worked for me.I have a Windows 11 Home edition laptop. It

As per your description, I understand that you have two standard accounts in your computer and you want to convert the account to Administrator account.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the standard account to administrator and check if it helps.

• Press ‘Windows+X’ and go to ‘Control panel’.
• Locate ‘User Accounts’ and click on it.
• Click on ‘Change your account type’ and check the option
  ‘Administrator’ then click on ‘Change account type’.
• Now your account will be changed as Administrator account.

changing standard account to administrative account

Hi Kiran,

These changes cannot be made with a standard account. Since you changed the administrator account to a standard one, you will not be able to make any changes that affect other users on the computer.

If there is another administrator account on the computer, we suggest to login using that account and change your account to administrative account.

Follow the steps below on how to change your standard account to administrative account:

1. On the desktop, press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.

2. Click on User Accounts in Large Icons View.

3. Click on Manage another account.

4. Click on the standard account.

5. Click on Change Account Type and select Administrator.

6. Click on Change Account Type button and restart the computer.

Yes, the procedure is complex but I split it into individual steps that, I believe, can be followed by anybody.

Booting into Safe mode is explained in section 3. All steps are included. If there is a step you cannot do then please tell me the para number and which aspect of it is confusing you.

Getting into the built-in Administrator account is explained in section 4. All steps are included. If there is a step you cannot do then please tell me the para number and which aspect of it is confusing you.

Any local account and any MSAccount can be made a "Standard" account or an Admin account. You need to be logged in to an Admin account in order to raise a Standard account to Admin status.
- Once you are logged in to one of the Admin accounts that I suggest that you create, you can go to Settings, Accounts, Family & other users so that you can select the account you want to raise then click on the Change account type button that appears.
- Be wary of promoting then relying upon the current problem account because its user profile might be damaged. I cannot say that it is definitely damaged but only that something has gone wrong.
