Windows 10: Problem with Defender stopping

I have a small on-line vendor who has a bunch of Windows 10 computers (various models). All are running latest Windows 10 with updates. Most are running Kaspersky, but some (including the CEO's daughter's) are just running Defender.

He says that that on occasion, the defender machines will report that Defender is turned off. They turn them back on, but later (when turned on), Defender is off.

I've told him to verify each time they do a shutdown that Defender is on and the status when next time turned on. When it happens again told him to check the event logs immediately. Also check the machines for any startup or scheduled events.

Suggestions on actions he can take to further investigate would be appreciated... TIA

If Windows Defender is stopping you for performing some task and it is important for you then you may disable Windows Defender for some time and then enable it after the completion of the task.

In order to turn off Windows defender you need to perform the steps provided below and see if it helps.

• Press Windows key or click on Start.
• Type Windows Defender in the search box.
• Click on Windows Defender Settings.
• Toggle the "Real-time protection" option to Off. This will disable Windows Defender
  in Windows 10.
• Now try to convert a pdf to a ppt and see the difference.

Windows Defender stops scanning

You can follow these steps to disable Windows Defender from Windows 10:

• Type services in the Cortana search field, then click
  Services.
  
• Locate then right-click Windows Defender Service.
  
• Choose Stop.
  
• Restart your computer.

To troubleshoot this issue, we suggest that you check the Windows Defender service if it's running. If you are using a third party spyware/malware program, it may disable the Windows Defender service. To do this, please follow the steps below:

• Press Windows + R key.
• Type services.msc.
• Right-click Windows Defender service and click
  Start.
