  1. Problem with DHCP lease time on mobile hotspots

I've had a problem with my Internet connection for a long time at least since January 15, 2023 and since I'm really fed up, I'm asking for help on this forum. When I share a connection between my Android phone and the computer, I manage to connect but the Internet only lasts for 1 hour, before the computer automatically disconnects. I've tried to restart the hotspot but it doesn't work. Either I have to restart the hotspot before the hour is up, or I have to restart the computer. This also happens on another computer, and both my Windows 10 PCs are up to date. After much research, I have t

  2. Problem with automatic extention of DHCP lease time on mobile hotspots

So it is confirmed. The latest version of AVG antivirus WAS the cause of this failure to automatically extend DHCP lease time on mobile hotspots. The issue can be closed.

  3. Problem with automatic extention of DHCP lease time on mobile hotspots

Since January 2nd I'm experiencing some strange behaviour while having my Windows 11 laptop connected to the internet over mobile (cellphone) hotspots. It suddenly started disconnecting from the internet after the one hour DHCP lease is over, without automatically extending the DHCP lease, which was normal behaviour for the last several years (both on Windows 10 and 11). The problem gets solved by manually turning the hotspot off and on again on the mobile phone, then it automatically reconnects to the internet.

At first I thought it was an issue with my mobile operator, so I contacted their support, but they assured me that nothing has changed in their network configuration that could cause such behaviour. For further troubleshooting, I took a different SIM card (from a different network) and put it into a different device (a tablet), but the problem is still there. So we eliminated the possibility that it's either the mobile operator, a faulty SIM card, or the phone, meaning the problem is somewhere within Windows 11 on my laptop.

I don't remember exactly when the last Windows Update was performed, but I think it was shortly before I noticed this strange behaviour. Anyway, at this moment Windows 11 is fully updated, with all the updates (both mandatory and optional ones). Are there any suggestions how this could be resolved? Although it's not a critical problem, it's still very irritating having to manually turn the hotspot off and on again every hour.

Problem with automatic extention of DHCP lease time on mobile hotspots

I have already done that. With normal wifi routers the behaviour is normal. This failure to extend the DHCP lease time happens only when connected to mobile hotspots.

There is one more thing - on January 6th and 9th, even when connected to mobile hotspots it resumed normal operation, but tomorrow the sympthom would be back again. I'm trying hard to determine what was diffrent in my actions on those days, because that could lead to an answer how to get rid of it. But I fail to think of anything specific. Restarting the laptop doesn't solve the problem. Restarting the phone doesn't solve it either. It doesn't matter whether the hotspot operates at 2.4 or 5 GHz. However, there is one thing in common that these two days have, which seems very bizzare as something that could have "repaired" the ability to get normal DHCP lease extension - on both days I've receive VOiP calls. But I just don't seem to find a logical connection. So I guess it must be something in the latest Windows updates which is causing this bug in hotspot behaviour.
