Windows 10: Problem with Documents folder. Game settings keep resetting. Hard to describe

I have a Windows 10 desktop PC. I tried playing this game called Watch Dogs. I care a lot about settings so I got really angry when I noticed that everything in the game except the saves were completely reset to default. Obviously I configured them to how I want them to be. To see if this happened to other games I launched the 3rd game in the series, WD Legion. All its settings were also reset. Very infuriating. I did play around with Microsoft OneDrive because I was having a problem with it, so I thought it was that and I disabled it by unlinking it from my PC.



After that, I tested Watch Dogs again. And still, infuriatingly, all the settings were reset again. WD Legion is a huge and demanding game so I don't want to touch it for now. Instead I tested another game from an entirely different developer and publisher, Just Cause 2. All that game's settings were reset too.



So the problem here is basically, files in my Documents folder keep resetting themselves to default, either some of them, the gaming ones, or possibly all of them. It's not just Ubisoft games like Watch Dogs, but Avalanche/Square Enix (Just Cause 2) ones too. This likely means that it's not the game's problem but a problem with something else. It's extremely infuriating because I'm worried that other files might be resetting themselves too, or reverting to older versions, and I have some files that I care about a lot, not really life or death files but they're still important to me.



I know it's hard to describe it in words and equally hard to understand, I hope somebody can help me with this. Thanks in advance!

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.

I think he is suggesting keeping a list of non-standard aspects of your setup so that you can 'quickly' whizz through the list if you ever have to set it all up from scratch again.

I do the same. My setup procedure is in a spreadsheet with one major topic for each sheet.
