    Problem with external drives after uninstalling AHCI driver


    Windows 10 x64 20H2

    I read here:
    Forum - Intel RST/RSTe Drivers (latest: v18.30.1.1138 WHQL/v7.0.0.2286 WHQL)
    that when using only AHCI mode that installing AHCI drivers without the IRST Software is recommended. As I had the full Intel RST(e) AHCI/RAID Drivers & Software Set v15.9.8.1050 WHQL installed at that time. I decided to deinstall the IRST Software to later install the drivers.
    Now here is the problem. I have an Icy Dock ICYCube MB561U3S-4SB R1 filled with 4 HDDs connected via USB3 to my PC. After deinstalling the AHCI drivers during boot Chkdsk suddenly wanted to run for all 4 external drives. I skipped it as I thought it had something to with the driver installation. After being back in Windows I installed the Intel AHCI drivers without the software package and rebooted. This time again Chkdsk wanted to run for all 4 drives. I know Windows can set the drive to "dirty" and will then always ask to scan, so I just let it scan the drives.
    I let it run over night and when I checked the next day something must have gone wrong. Chkdsk created found.000 folders on all 4 of my external drives with nearly ALL of my files that were on my drives. I had absolutely no problems with any of the drives before this. Can I somehow fix this or are the files all lost?

    How do you uninstall chipset drivers?

    I'm installing a new mobo so I need to uninstall the intel 865g drivers to make way for the P35 drivers.

    Can't find any uninstall options in add/remove programs and intel chipset inst listed in driver cleaner.

    Any suggestions? *Confused Problem with external drives after uninstalling AHCI driver :confused:

    To address your concern, here are the troubleshooting steps that you can try. Follow the steps below:

    Uninstall and reinstall the external hard drive program.

    • In the Settings app, go to System.
    • Go to Apps & features and locate the external hard drive program.
    • Uninstall the program and go to the manufacturer's website to reinstall the updated version.
    Uninstall and reinstall the Paragon driver software.

    • Following the same steps mentioned above, locate the software in Apps & features
      and uninstall it.
    • After uninstalling the software, go to the manufacturer's website to reinstall it.
    To further isolate your concern, we'd also like to verify if the OneDrive app is enabled on your PC.

    Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.
