Windows 10: Problem with External DVD/RW Device with Windows 10.

I just bought a New External DVD/RW Drive and I have Windows 10 in both Laptop & Desktop, the drive is being recongnized BUT when I try to click on it or insert any CD/DVD on it the entire Windows Explorer freezes and I have to either unplug the device to let everything run again or Restart Computer. What do I need to do to make it work?

This circumstance can occur if the device hardware fails or if the device driver fails.



I suggest you to uninstall the Universal Serial Bus Controller
associated with the external DVD/RW (Cnm) and reinstall it from the manufacturer’s website and check if it helps.



To uninstall the drivers from device manager follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X and click on
  Device Manager.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller.
• Find the Cnm DVD/RW drive.
• Right click on the driver and select Uninstall.

Unfortunately my problem is still not sorted. My Windows 10 Lenovo Yoga laptop will not recognize my external DVD/RW drive.

Any more suggestions anyone, apart from those suggested above?

I discovered that the manufacturer of the Cnm DVD/RW drive is unfortunately no longer in existence. They were the first place I tried to get help with this problem.

So I am no further forward. I have come across messages on various forums talking about DVD not being recognized after upgrade to Windows 10, and many - but not all - users saying that a registry edit solved their problems.
BUT I think they are talking about internal (rather than external) DVD drives. So I don't know if there is a similar solution for using an external DVD/RW? Now this is a all a bit of a foreign language to me! And I am not very computer-wise.


Any more suggestions gratefully received.
