    Problem with installing windows along optane memory


    I have an Asus X510U laptop. It's specifications are given below:


    i5 - 8250u

    8gb ram upgraded from 4gb

    1TB hdd

    16gb intel optane memory


    It had Windows 10 1803 pre-installed, I had it updated to 1903. In December I added another 4gb ram stick but the windows was first stuck at welcome screen, after restarting it was stuck at Asus logo where it checked Windows Metadata Cache. So I re-installed the windows but it was not simple as i had to enable legacy mode disable secure boot and changed the hdd format . After everything appeared to be fine but the problem came when I tried to install Intel Optane Memory it said the bios configuration is not compatible. I tried enabling Optane memory from BIOS but after that Windows wont load the laptop straight goes to BIOS.

    Please help.

    I get as far as Mount the Windows* Recovery Image:

    dism/mountimage/imagefile:c:\Win10USB\windows\windows\system32\recovery\w inre.wim /Index:1 /mountdir:winre

    and get

    mountimage/imagefile is unknown.

    Any ideas to get this working.

    is installed in your system and the module’s status, you need to have either of the apps listed below installed on your system:



    • Intel® Optane™ Memory User Interface
    • Intel® Rapid Storage Technology User Interface


    Click on the Start menu and search for any of the apps listed above. Once you find the app, refer the article
    How to Determine What Intel® Optane™ Memory Technology is in Your System
    to know where to look for the module’s status.

    Problem with installing windows along optane memory

    Is optane memory not compatible with my build

    I built a desktop with the following parts:

    • 32gb Intel optane memory
    • 500 gb western digital nvme m.2 ssd
    • windows 10 home
    • i7-8700k
    • evga 1080ti
    • seagate SATA 2tb HDD
    • asus rog strix z370e- gaming motherboard

    My problem: I setup and turned on my computer. Installed windows 10. Went into bios and turned on the optane acceleration option. I was not sure if it was working at that point and checked online for drivers. When I went to install intel’s optane software it told me I had to uninstall the Intel rapid software before installing so I did. On computer restart I got a blue screen. This continued until I turned off the optane setting in bios. I am not sure how to undo what I did, and also get my optane memory to work with my 2tb hdd as expected. Are my components all compatible? When I turn off the optane setting in bios, it starts up correctly.

    Attempted fixes:
    - I tried to reinstall the Intel rapid storage technology software
    - I deleted everything on the SSD, formatted, and reinstalled windows

    Is it safe / should I reformat the optane memory?
