    Problem with internet drop outs

My boys who live with their mum have sky fibre 38mb download, 9mb upload & it stays connected no issue's what so ever. However the sky black router is only b/g 54g. So wifi won't be great. But it's wired up to a duel band router 300mbps & it works great. However a small problem that's arose that was apparent at the start but I thought I fixed with the router update.

When my boys are online. Every now & again their internet acts like they don't have internet. They still remain connected to the wifi & the router logs show no disconnections. Doing speed tests shows they get 34mbps download & 9mbps upload. But it prevents them playing on server based games. Like minecraft & so forth. They all keep getting disconnected every 30 - 60 seconds for about 10 seconds & then its back. They have hamachi installed which is recent & it pings perfectly fine between computers. But it also kicks me off teamviewer & logmein & prevents me from connecting for a good 10-15 seconds.

They have 3 pc's connected close to the router & they all get top end speeds no problems. Its just the short drop outs that don't disconnect them from the wifi but stops all data to & from. I've no idea what's causing it & hope someone could fire me some suggestions to try.

It's a new router & tested myself on my own network not to be at fault. New ethernet cable to hook from sky router to the new one. They get top end speeds & full signal strength & running windows 10.

    Suggestions please :0)

    :)

Windows 10 intermittent drop-outs? Problem solved.

    Hey everyone,

Found a solution to the ridiculous network drop-out thing that's been happening with Windows 10. Just open "Properties" for your driver and disable "Energy Efficient Ethernet" in the advanced settings. Bingo!

    Hope this helps.

  3. Internet dropping in and out

Every hour or so my internet will drop out and say I don't have a valid ip configuration?

Resetting the adapter does nothing, it decides when it wants to work again, Can take between 5 and 25 minutes to return to normality. any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Update. I opened up Resource Monitor & had it open on network. When the connection drops & then reconnects a few seconds later. You can see the network activity dropping flat for that period of time!

Edit.. I have think I have found the problem but need to double check with someone more experienced than I with networking.

The above is the config of the Ethernet sockets from the main router upstairs into the middle of the house I recently wired up. I've done this a few times but I was under the weather & not thinking right when I did this.

The wired pic on the left is downstairs. But I noticed the socket plate was different to my usual ones for upstairs shown on the right. So I wired using B. But after browsing the photos on my phone I realised they are different in layout to each other. I stick to the plate colour coding & I think this is at fault? Although the number match, the positioning on the plate are different. Could this be the cause of the drop outs?

I set up a ping from the computer to a computer on a different network connected by hamachi & when the connection kicked me off teamviewer or disconnected from minecraft server, the ping also timed out. I did the same with the router & it too also timed at at the point of disconnection.

    So is this the cause?

From what I see, the physical positions themselves are irrelevant. Look at the connector; match number color trace to number color trace and number color solid to number color solid. If you reverse any number color trace-solid scheme between connectors, YES, that will be a problem. It needs to be wired right.

On the left side, are you sure the wire is all the way down? The spreading on the post looks too wide, like wire insulation is in the way. When you use an impact punch down tool to insert the wire it gets nothing but copper between the post and the wire causing the post to only separate as wide as the copper wire. Several of those look like wire insulation is in the way and this can cause intermittent contact.

Not much you can do with government regulated Internet and how they mandate that ISP's throttle user connections to keep the costs low when they have t transfer the data across oceans and seas.
