Windows 10: Problem with setting English language

Hello Everyone,
As I travel to the north on regular occasions, I bought a Lenovo G585 laptop in Spain, where I live. It had W.7.Home Premium installed in Spanish.
I have now upgraded it with the free installation of W.10.
As with all things downloaded in Spain, there is rarely a choice to obtain the download in English.
After the download I found a way to change the language into English.
That done, the keyboard no longer responded correctly!
I am also not able to use the search facility Cortana as it is unavailable in Spain.
Is there any way that I can have the W10 OS language in English AND make the keyboard respond to its designed (Spanish) keys?

(I am writing this on my desktop which has W7 Ultimate in English installed!)

My MS Curve keyboard.

I had this problem too and found that it was because my language settings were on English (US) not English (UK).

To change the language go to: Settings, Time and Language, Region and Language and then where is says add a language add English (United Kngdom) and set it as the default (Left click on it and then select set a default).

English (Canada) is not available as a language engine for speech recognition.

I have downloaded the speech pack.

Setting English (Canada) as my display language sets my display language to English (Great Britain).

I have tried this from Region and Language.

I have tried this from Control Panel -> Language

Despite the Language control panel showing three languages (English UK, US, and Canadian), lpksetup.exe only shows two.

Testing reveals that neither of them are English (Canada).

How do I fix this?

 

Yes you can and it is the same as in 7 if I remember correctly.

Search for Language in Control Panel. Click on Options in the English Language.





On Input Method click on Add Input Method and scroll down the list until you find Spanish. Then remove English.





This only affects your keyboard - no other regional or language settings are affected.

For Cortana to work you need your language, region and speech have to be the same - it doesn't care about the keyboard. If your language is US English you'll need to make sure you set your region to US as well. As region affects things like search results and news I leave mine where I am and don't use Cortana but it is up to you - I've just not found a use for it yet.

 

As lx07 says, you also need to download the speech package via the Settings dialogue for Cortana to work properly. Further, unless you have these consistent, searching Settings will fail with an obscure and misleading message warning you search isn't ready yet.

Many thanks for your reply. I regret the delay in responding, but I had some rather urgent matters to attend to and have not opened my PC for 3 days!
I used your 1st suggestion and - after translating into Spanish, - I have found it to be OK - at the moment! If I have any further problems I shall return for more advice.
My thanks also to 'dalchina' and I agree with you, and I have no use really for the Cortana. I used the 'search' in W7 to search the PC for programmes and suchlike, but I shall use other methods with this W10 "beast"which I hope will suffice!

Agree about Cortana. However the ability to search Settings is very useful, and requires language settings to be consistent for that to work.
