    I need to copy a new shortcut to Users PC. I am trying to create the shortcut on my PC but I do not have the program installed. "Office 2016 Standard x86" . I have O365 installed.Windows will not let me create a shortcut to a path that does not exist.yes i could create on their PC but then I have hurt their productivity to do it.I have searched for answer but all the results are to fix a shortcut not create one for software not installed on the PC.I can't believe there is not a way to do this.Any help would be appreciated.Thank you

    As I stated in my original post the target is set to when I create the shortcut: "C:\Users\*Myname*\Documents\...

    After some action on my part (I suspect it happens when I copy a file from the network PC's folder via the shortcut and then paste it on the local PC) the target path on the network PCs desktop shortcut will change to the network path. example: \\*PC's Name*\Documents\...

    Symlinks appear interesting but I'm not sure how they would solve the problem. If I go directly to the folder on the remote PC to grab a file Windows does not try to change the target path of that folder, it's only if I access it through the shortcut on
    the remote PCs desktop (and it only effects the shortcut, not the file folder the shortcut points to)

    Hi,
    Just turned computer on, and upon starting found "File Explorer" icon in Taskbar to be "flashing" together with the error message..... The Target of this Internet Shortcut is not valid!
    I am using Mozilla Firefox as opposed to Internet Explorer, (IE being turned off).
    Anyone have any experience/information to resolve the problem
