  1. Problem with StorageSense task using too much RAM (taskhostw.exe)

I've been having a problem for 2-3 months where a taskhostw.exe process is suddenly using 22GB of RAM and my PC either crashes or grinds to a halt. I've spent hours and hours troubleshooting, refusing to just reinstall Windows. Today I used Process Explorer again to check out the process that was eating up my memory after doing that many times before.

This time I noticed the "Parent" of the process in the image tab, which said svhost and a PID. I used that to find the corresponding service, which was "Schedule". Then I saw that the process had a thread called StorageUsage.dll!GetStorageUsageInfo, which normally was never there when I discovered it was eating my RAM, normally it showed 4 random threads that pretty much did nothing. That led me to the StorageSense task in the Task Scheduler.

What I expect is that the process malfunctions and starts taking more and more RAM. When it runs out the GetStorageUsageInfo thread crashes, but the process itself keeps running and holds the RAM.

I've disabled the StorageSense task in the Task Scheduler and am pretty certain this will fix the issue. I wanted to post this here because I spent hours googling for a solution and maybe this can help someone.

    :)

taskhostw tying to access your WebCam?!

Oops, switching to Hibernate won't get rid of the problem; it will just hide it from view!

Seems I have Taskhostw dot exe in Details of my Task Manager.

    AMD FX OC'ers Club

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
