Problem with turning off the display device

I'm running windows 10 pro on an intel NUC7i5. I'm using my TV as a monitor connected via an HDMI cable.
As long as I keep the TV on, windows runs reliably. In fact I have never seen it stop or crash even when running continuously for weeks at a stretch. However if I turn off my TV, then when I turn the TV back on again many hours later, about half the time the display is visible and the other half the time the screen is completely blank (as if the display hdmi cable has been disconnected). If I simply unplug the display hdmi cable and plug it back in again the display will again come alive (about half the time) and then windows will again behave normally. The other half the time I have to reboot the nuc to restart windows. (It restarts normally every time.)

Is there something windows could be doing that requires the display to be alive? I'm generally running Kodi although I don't think the problem has anything to do with what program I am running. I could do more testing to verify that, although it takes a long time to collect the data. Also, in the power applet I have said that windows should never sleep or hibernate. At one point I tried allowing it to sleep, but I believe I saw a similar problem where only a blank screen would appear when windows woke up.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? Or if not what experiments can I run to narrow down the problem?

    Thank
    ~Paul

BIG problem with wifi turning off with the screen....

Thank you for letting me know that I don't need to log in to the Spotify app. - I'll give it a try.

I'm using HTC radar with wp7.5 it's a really nice phone and I like wp7 in general but I have problems with mobile reception in one of the places that I work and so I need wifi permanently connected to be able to receive messages & mail.

If I thought that Microsoft was going to fix this soon I'd keep the phone however if I'd known about this before I would never have made the purchase.

I just don't understand why the option is not there - in Android you have the choice to turn wifi on or off as you choose, surely taking any options away from the user is going to be annoying to them it certainly annoys the h*** out of me.

If the Spotify thing works I may hold on in the hope that Mictrosoft fix this but I'm not happy about having to look for workarounds anyway.

As I said before, assuming this is a battery saving idea and the only alternative is to leave the screen permanently on, or to plug the device in, then it really is absurd.

Another thing is that I find wifi uses less battery than having 3g connected or the screen on full time so I'm not so sure that it drains the battery that much - in Android the system tells you what is using the most battery and it's never wifi.

    EDIT:

I've just spent a while installing Spotify but it doesn't work - the wifi still disconnects. I don't know if it would work if I signed in to Spotify but to be able to do this I need a Facebook account - something that I'm not interested in. Looks like
I'll be selling the phone after all.

BIG problem with wifi turning off with the screen....

Thanks for trying to help me out BruceXLi - but I don't want a workaround, I want the option to use the phone the way that I want to. I can't believe that microsoft haven't given the user the option to choose how they connect to wifi. Apart from this
I don't want spotify on my phone nor do I want an associated facebook account which appears to be necessary.

I think I'm pretty much decided to sell my wp7 phone and go over to Android, this is a deal breaker for me and I could wait for months for Microsoft to fix it - or perhaps they won't fix it !

Problem with turning off the display device

What I'd also look for is other settings in Power Options that can put things like the USB ports to sleep in the interest of saving energy, such as MultiMedia settings.

Ok, I looked thru the many dozens of Power options and disabled anything that gave any suggestion that it might save energy. At first, I thought this improved things, but after a few days, it started showing a blank screen about 3/4 of the times that I turn the TV back on. This is worse than before, but perhaps could be just a statistical variation. Also lately the trick of unplugging the HDMI cable and replugging it back in hasn't worked, so now a reboot seems to be the only recourse. (Again this could be just a statistical variation). In any case, the problem has clearly not been solved so I'm hoping someone out there can suggest something else to try.
    Thanks
