  1. Problem with updating sound drivers

For the second time in as many months I suddenly found that that I had no sound with audio or video files. The regular Windows Troubleshooter found no issues. Then I right clicked the speakers icon in the notification area and was offered "Troubleshoot Sound Problems." This brought up the "virtual" help lady, who asked me if I'd like to run a scan to detect the problem. I did and it did. It said that the audio drivers were not properly installed or updated. I'm sorry I didn't note the exact words.. Would I like to install or update the drivers? I said Yes, it did, and all was back to normal.
After the first time this happened I thought, "All's well that ends well." But now I really want to understand why this happened--and how to prevent it from happening again--and again.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

This is an HP All-in-One desktop purchased in December, 20`19.

    :)

    Hi Matty,

Thank you for using Windows 10.

I understand your concern and would suggest you to check with any other headphones to make sure there is no issues with headphones.

I would also suggest you to update the Sound drivers and check if that helps. Here is the steps:

    • Press “Windows + X” and select Device manger.
    • Locate the sound driver and expand the driver icon.
    • Right click on the driver icon and click on Update.
Keep us informed about the status of the issue and we'll be happy to assist you further.

    Sound problem

    Hi,

We need to investigate further so that we can identify the cause of the issue. We suggest running the Troubleshooter and see if it helps. Follow the steps below:

    • Type and select Troubleshooting on the Search bar/Cortana.
    • Click Hardware and Sound.
    • Select Playing Audio under Sound.
    • Follow the steps that will be provided.
If the steps does not work. We suggest downloading a fresh copy of the audio driver from Realtek and see if it helps.

    Looking forward to your response.
