Windows 10: Problem With Verification Codes Being Accepted

I am having a problem with windows accepting a verification code they send me. I am able to sign into my Microsoft account with no problem. When I want to access the security area of the account I enter my sign in name and password. A screen pops up and says a verification code has been sent to my e-mail account. I received the e-mail with the code. When I enter the code it is not accepted and brings up the login screen again. Normally it would take me to the security are of my account. I have tried changing my password and that did not work.Why is this happening and how can I correct thi

gmail problem

I have several gmail accounts and can sign into Chrome with each except for one.
When I attempt to sign in with the problem account it tells me that the password is incorrect.
Using Gmail's account recovery & 2 factor authentication gmail sends a verification code to my phone (which I receive).
The next step is to enter the verification code into account recovery which it accepts.
It then states that it will send a code to my recovery email address.
However, I don't receive the email.
I've attempted using a different recovery email address with no luck.
Now the email account is working since it receives (& sends) emails daily (vial Mailbird).
It's just not possible to sign into Chrome with it.
Any suggestions?

 

2 step verification problem

I have just re-opened a Microsoft Account, changed the password successfully and logged in. Microsoft refused one of my

email accounts for 2 step verification. As I have 3 others available on my domain I simply changed it and they appeared to accept this. BUT - they have sent me a new recovery code saying it is for account .... ( hieroglyphics which make no sense).

For security reasons I am inventing a look alike to indicate the problem. They have sent "For account xy*****@mydomainname". I do not have an email address that fits this 5 star "code" xy are the first 2 letters of the REJECTED email address but it does
not have 5 more digits before the @ sign. On the other hand the email address they finally accepted has the right number of digits before the @ sign (if you include the xy in the calculation) as the one they have sent but does not start with xy. Can anyone
suggest what I can do ?
