Windows 10: Problem with Win 10 Photos App

I am able to open any photo in any folder in the Photos App including the first photo in the folder – see later, but as soon as I click on the next/previous arrows I get the following error message:FILENAME.JPG - Sorry, Photos can't open this file because the format is currently unsupported, or the file is corruptedThe error message ALWAYS references the first file in the folder, regardless of which file I have opened. Renaming or deleting the first file in the folder makes no difference – the error still occurs and continues to reference the "new" first file in the folder. This has only occ

Problem with Win 10 Photos app

One not quite so obvious way. Right-click on any .jpeg and click on Open with > Choose another app. Tick the 'Always use this app....' box then pick your choice from the list.





If it isn't there, scroll down and click 'More apps'....





...and if it's not there either click 'Look for another app on this PC' and browse until you find the .exe for your app.

Or do you mean you can select it, but the default doesn't change?

You could try using Default Programs Editor to make the change:

 

A problem with Win 10 Home Photos app

Just a suggesting. Clear all file associations via the GUI:




Then head to Settings> Apps> Default Apps> Choose Default Apps By File Type

Then set image file associations to something else.

Uninstall Irfanview completely using a third party uninstaller that scans for leftovers.

Then reboot and reinstall it. Set file associations for Irfanview via "Open With" > "Always use this app"

See if you get the same problem.
