Problems installing W10 from USB Stick using Media Creation Tool.

    Hello,

I am having difficulty with something and hoping this would be the best place to get the help I need.

I am currently on W7 and would like to move to W10. I prefer to do clean/fresh installs. I have downloaded the Media Creation Tool and created a bootable USB drive for W10.

First time trying I got to the purple installation screen, but after 1% of the install I got error message 0x8007025D. I have looked around and this could be a corrupted download, corrupted USB stick or even HDD.

I formatted the USB stick, redownloaded the Media Creation Tool and put it back on the USB.

Went to install a second time and this time after the blue windows logo with spinning circle underneath it goes to black screen and the PC is doing nothing (the led light to show HDD activity is completely lifeless).

On both occasions I have made the USB boot priority in BIOS, formatted the USB stick before putting the installation media on it and redownloaded the tool so I'm not sure why 1 it isn't working and 2 why it failed at an even earlier point the second time around.

First attempt was from a point where my machine was completely up to date on W7, second time was after a very basic install of W7 and had done no windows updates nor put all the usual files on my PC from my MOBO disc as I wanted to get back around to trying to install W10 as quicly as possible, though I don't see why that would make a difference?

I don't have any SDD installed if that makes any difference. I have 4gb ram. My USB stick is USB3.0.

If I have missed any pertinent info off that would be helpful to those trying to help, please let me know.

    :)

  2. How do I reformat the 64GB USB stick used by media creation tool ?

My usb sticks were either 8GB of less, and 64GB, so when using the media creation tool to upgrade Windows 10.240 to the November update which failed, I had used my 64GB disk.

However, I cannot use it for anything else. Worse, it is now 32GB.

If I 'open as Portable Device' it shows only 32GB, but with 21.1 GB free of 31.9GB.

No where have I read of any issues or suggestions that Media creation tool does this, or of people encountering problems.

In case someone asks whether I am sure it is 64GB

Please can anyone explain how to get my 64GB back?

Media Creation Tool ruined USB stick

I tried creating a bootable USB using the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool last night. It worked great, and I'm done with it. I want to format my USB stick so I can use it again, but the volume appears to have been marked read-only. How can I recover use
    of my USB stick?

    Media Creation Tool question

Thanks Cerberus but Ive no problem downloading the Iso with the media creation tool. I don't think its the ISO that is the problem' I think the problem is when the Media Creation Tool is creating the bootable USB flash drive. So I think I can use the Media Creation Tool for that part...and as you say try something like Rufus to create the bootable USB flash drive

I still have this question though "The tutorial here says after going to the Microsoft site and selecting the Download Tool (Media Creation Tool) option that the Media Creation Tool should be save to the PC and run from there.
On Microsoft site the instructions are to Download the Tool and select Run (no saving to the PC). Is there a reason for saving it to the PC first as suggested on Tenforums?"

I was curious to see if others had encountered the issue I had with the Media Creation Tool. Ive never had a problem using it before
