Windows 10: Problems installing Windows 10 bootable USB to Patriot Burst 480GB SSD

Hello everyone!

I've been having a nightmare of a time trying to do a fresh install of windows 10 on my Patriot Burst SSD 480GB laptop is Lenovo B51-80. I have spent hours utilizing different solutions and methods to my problems- I currently have a less than ideal installation on my machine, but I fear for the stability of it, so I'd like to install it correctly- will elaborate later in the post.

1. The initial approach was to try and clone the system partitions with a cloning tool. This approach failed.
2. We then tried to a cloning tool to migrate the OS to the new SSD- no program was effective including Macrium
3. Finally I decided that a fresh install from a bootable USB would be the ideal way to go.
   1. Initially the installed failed because the SSD was not formatted as GPT
   2. Later after formatting it as GPT using diskpart,clean,convert it presented a new problem: a 480gb SSD was showing as a 2048GB SSD
   3. Performing a diskpart,clean, without convert gpt fixes the size problem. However the drive is now unusable as well. With three new errors in lieu of the single GPT format missing error previously seen.

   5. Finally the solution that got me somewhere was to use diskpart,clean, create paritition primary, ntfs. assign etc. However now I was faced with a new error that said ' We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one'.
   6. To troubleshoot this I used this windows thread. What the top answer recommends is that you copy contents from the bootable USB to the target drive through command prompt during installation and then Windows should automatically begin to install form the SSD on the next start.
   7. This worked....partially. At first I had to go into my BIOS and make the boot order Legacy first, although my SSD didn't show up under Legacy or EFI.
   8. However the video shows that the windows bootable installation should be on a separate partition of my SSD- in my case there were no partitions visible, just my SSD. So I selected it.
   9. The OS installed, I am currently typing from the same machine, However since the SSD contained the bootable windows installation, on startup I get two boot options 'Install Windows' Or 'Run WIndows'. In a last ditch effort I tried deleting the bootable installation files but the Install Windows option still shows. Which is why I think this is a bit of an unstable installation and would like to repeat it.

I sincerely hope someone can help, I am at the end of my patience and have used all possible solutions.

Multi-bootable USB

Hey guys from TPU, couldn't find any specific thread pertaining to the question asked on title. As mentioned, I'm trying to create a bootable USB, but with many specifics boots available.

I've been trying to create one with multiple boot device including one that enables me to run Windows 10 directly on the USB Thumb Drive but to no avail.

The list of bootable images i'm trying to create are

1. Windows 10 (A full OS running from thumb drive)
2. Windows 10 ISO (Bootable disk image for fresh install)
3. MemTest86+

Have tried YUMI or UUI from the website USB PenDrive Linux but as this is my first time, i don't know how am i screwing up or am doing it right.. Anyone got a rough idea on a step by step guide? Thanks!

 

Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

There is three options:
Windows 10
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

 

Partition SSD during windows 10 install

I'm assembling a new PC and running a fresh windows 10 install. I'd like to know how to partition the ssd into 2 separate partitions during the windows install (I'm using a bootable usb drive to install Windows).

I want to know if I need to input specific settings for those partitions or if it's all automatic?

I need one partition for Windows on and another for my documents. The ssd has 960gb size.

So I'm guessing it has about 60gb over-provisionning. I could leave out a bit more, but it probably doesn't matter that much
